Hi all,

I'm hoping some of you can shed some light on my situation:

- I filed for the CR189 form to remove conditions on my GC, in Jan 2016.

- Went for fingerprinting in Feb 2016.

- In a couple months I got the notice stating my conditional status was extended by a year until April 2017.

However, every time I check the status for this case, the same notification pops up

"We sent you a notice in Jan 2016, stating how we will proceed with the case. If you have not received the notice by Feb 2016, please call the customer service line".

The notice they sent in Jan, was for Fingerprinting in Feb. That's all.

What happens now? There's been no news or update on an interview date or when I may receive the new Green Card. I returned from an International trip a few days ago and even the Customs Officer told me to try and get an update from USCIS, as once April 2017 arrives and my extension expires, they won't provide another extension and I may not be able to travel or work etc.

Not sure how true this is but regardless, I'd like to get my new GC asap.

Anyone have any insight on this process and how long it takes?

Thank you!

If your NOA1 extension is close to expiring (April 2017) and your case has not been approved yet, you can make an Infopass appointment and get a stamp (I-551) stamp in your passport. Since you filed at VSC, you are looking at a 12+ months of waiting....

You were misinformed. USCIS will provide further proof of your LPR status in the form of an I-551 passport stamp, as mentioned above, if your I-751 remains pending when your extension letter expires.

Thank you all!

Is it still not suspect that when I check my status, it's not updated to "Processing" or something to that effect? Just want to make sure I'm doing my part by following up so I even put a call into the customer service number but have not been able to get through yet.

Are you using the correct receipt number? I believe for RoC you need to use the one that's listed on your biometrics appointment letter, not the original I-751 receipt NOA. For some reason they are different.

Either way, it can take up to a year for an I-751 to be processed by USCIS.

Hi all,

Happy New Year!

I wanted to circle back with a quick (and unfortunate) update and a couple questions as well

- Finally received a notice in the mail regarding our case, it's an RFE for more info to prove the validity of our marriage. Very frustrating but we are working on gathering additional paperwork to submit

- Meanwhile, the one year extension letter they had sent me, is valid only until April 2016. Over Christmas Break, my wife and I planned to visit Costa Rica. When we arrived at Liberia Airport immigration, the officer refused to accept the extension letter as proof of valid visa for US and denied me entry into Costa Rica. Despite our several pleas and explanation, we were forced to board the immediate return flight to the US. This was incredibly humiliating and frustrating esp because I had called the Costa Rican consulate in NYC to confirm that this extension letter would be sufficient.

Anyhow, after many tears, we're finally over that humiliating experience. But we still have plans for more travel this year so to avoid any more confusion and heartache, I got an InfoPass appointment to get my passport stamped with another year extension on the GC, until the RFE is resolved.

My questions is/are:

- I've read on several forums that InfoPass officers are refusing to stamp people's passport. Is this accurate? Does anyone have experience with this?

- What documents (in addition to what's mentioned on InfoPass Appointment letter) do you recommend I take with me?

- Would it be helpful to take travel itinerary showcasing upcoming travel, hence the need for the stamp?

- Does the stamp effectively work as a GC?

- If they do agree to stamp my passport, do they take away the expired GC? Any pros and cons to giving up the expired GC?

My questions is/are:

- I've read on several forums that InfoPass officers are refusing to stamp people's passport. Is this accurate? No. They will refuse to stamp before the letter is close to expiring.. Does anyone have experience with this? Yes, I got a stamp.

- What documents (in addition to what's mentioned on InfoPass Appointment letter) do you recommend I take with me? The InfoPass letter asks you to bring all communications received with regards to your case. Bring that, and your GC.

- Would it be helpful to take travel itinerary showcasing upcoming travel, hence the need for the stamp? No. If your letter is close to expiring, you have the right to get a stamp for another year regardless of the reason. When my letter wasn't close to expiring, I went and asked for the stamp with a bunch of itineraries and was refused immediately.

- Does the stamp effectively work as a GC? It works as an LPR stamp. Roughly the same, but you should read up on the differences.

- If they do agree to stamp my passport, do they take away the expired GC? Yes. Any pros and cons to giving up the expired GC? Expired GC + expired letter is useless, no real drawback other than the card looking more legit to someone who doesn't know what the stamp is.

Thanks F1H1I130.

My letter expires in April and in Costa Rica they said that if I had a stamp or GC expiring within 6 mths or less, they would not accept it. Applying for visa for a couple other countries was the same thing..

April is close enough, no? I hate waiting till the last minute to get this stuff resolved!

If I were you, I wouldn't go to Costa Rica. They're known for not accepting extension letters, etc. - basically, valid green card or nothing. I haven't heard of other places being so strict.

And if you go to USCIS and claim that you want a stamp because Costa Rica won't accept the letter, I don't think you'll get it unless your letter is about to expire. That's what happened to me and I was told they didn't care about other countries' immigration policies, they only followed the US's.

A follow up to this thread:

We submitted I751 CR189 and my wife went to get her biometrics taken a few weeks ago. They told us to wait, but her Green Card expires on June 12th and her employer is asking for valid Identification beyond June 12th.

What can we do?

Thank you very much in advance.

When did you file for ROC?  I am assuming you did it a month or so ago?  You should get an extension letter which can be presented with your expired card to prove your validity to work or your employer can e verify you.

Removal of Conditions..  TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK

Time to reset the tick tock clock again.   Roll my eyes.
