Hello all,

I have applied for my AOS and so far it has been going smoothly. I started to think about my next steps after getting the green card and one of them is driving.

The NJ's DMV website says that to get a driver's license I need to present them with proof of diving experience such as an international Driving Permit and proof of authorized stay in the country.

My IDP is expired, do you think they would accept it still? I don't want to have to go through the whole first-time driver process.

Thank you

So upon further reading, they might take that as the driving experience they require. But to me it was not clear if you'd still have to go through the tests in order to get a license. I'd be prepared for it though, so many different rules here. And you can start looking into it if you have your EAD in hand

Good luck

You likely just have to start over with a learners permit and go from there.

I do not think transferring as a new resident applies to you.
