I'm officially a Citizen!

 

The process in Orlando was straight forward. I arrived 30 minutes early went to reception and told to sit and wait to be called. 30 minutes later an officer came out to ensure we all had the reverse of our I-485 completed and had our green cards ready. I was part of a group of approx 50 to be naturalized. We where lined up in the waiting area and brought over and split into four lines. When I reached the end of the line they took my green card, double checked my form, ran through the questions and asked that I go to the ceremony room. Into another line and again my document was checked once more, I was directed to the next staff member who was seating (as we arrived in no order) the soon to be citizens. She took my paperwork had me take a seat. On the seat was a packet, inside a voter registration form, passport application and a small booklet and a document running through how to acquire citizenship for children under the age of 18. On top of the packet a small flag of course.

 

The ceremony lasted approx 45 minutes, there was a short video at the start about the history of the US and it's immigrant past. A short speech by the director, voter registration lady spoke and gave excellent information, another speech by I believe a regional manager for USCIS who then swore us in. We stood for teh pledge as citizens another short video was played. We where then issued our certificates as we exited our assigned seats. Then out to fill in that voter registration, take a few pictures and out into the world a freshly minted citizen of the American Republic.

I have been absent from this feed for quite some time but I recently caught up with the threads and wanted to add my journey.

 

Location: Los Angeles

Filed: Nov. 15, 2016

Fingerprints: mid December 2016

Interview: July 14th -- took 15-20 mins, very straight forward, approved/recommended for citizenship

Ceremony: Aug 22nd!!!! Just got the ceremony letter this week!!

 

This has truly been a tough journey but God has always shown me the light. I pray for the best for everyone. Remain optimistic and hopeful. It WILL happen for everyone.

I notice that none of the Oct filers that already had interview in June or July...no oath letters for any of them either. Can't even get infopass appointment as they are full. God knows what's going on!!

I am also a Dallas filer... still waiting just like everybody else stuck in "in line for interview" my residence card expires the 22nd of this month so I'm in the middle of a problem here. I'm not sure what I should do.

I think you can get the i551 stamp on your passport in the interim. Might want to call/infopass and confirm.

@Paola_Villalta If your card expires, you cannot travel. Otherwise it shouldn't affect you much. There is a lot about that in the forums. It may be a bit of hassle to renew your DL or if you change jobs. What I understood is that permanent residence status  does not expire. It is the card. I attended the interview with an expired card. No issues. One of my friends also went with an expired card. There is guidance on this also on the forums. I also saw a FaceBook post from Google Search about this topic on the USCIS Facebook page.

@Puxdude I have been looking into that and I will definitely have to get it done. 

 

@Wingbat I will check out the forums  I'm job hunting at the moment but from what I've read employers have to accept the i551 on your passport. I'm hoping this ends soon lol

@Paola_Villalta Of course, the I-551 stamp works. I think I read that to get the I-551 they would like to see Green Card renewal has been applied. I am not sure if they will do the I-551 when Citizenship application is in process. You may have to dig into that.

@Booze&Blues First thank you. I applied based 3 years rules the paper I submitted with my application was tax transcripts for 2013 2014 2015 some bank statements, apartment lease car insurance cable bills I think that was it. At the interview the officer starts asking me the civic questions and writing and reading part. After he went through the n400 briefly. And he didn't ask for any supporting documents. At the end of the interview he recommended my application for approval and told me to wait for the oath ceremony letter. If you have any questions let me know.

I just took an info pass yesterday, in Dallas office. The lady was very strict. She told me that my case is stuck in FBI NNCP. My name is not cleared. Can take days/months or years before that happens. So i am doomed. Not sure why i am stuck. I pay so much in taxes every year and have not even received a traffic ticket. So sad they trouble good people, and people with DWI and past offenses are already citizen.
