Question. I applied for my citizenship after being married for over 6 years, therefore it wasn't based on marriage to US citizen (I believe if I had been married 3 years or less, I would have to apply on basis of marriage). Will I still need to bring the marriage certificate/tax returns/joint bills to the interview?

Woo hoo! Those are the type of "problems" I like to have ^_^ Oh wow really? I genuinely didn't think becoming a citizen before my trip was even a possibility at this point, but it's exciting to think that it might actually be the case! Great news about the passports too, as I know you're legally required to travel on a US passport if you're a citizen! I hope you're staying cool in weather B-)

Naturalization Journey (Based on 5 years as a PR):

November 21st 2016 - Sent N-400 to Dallas Lockbox.

November 30th - Check Cashed.

December 1st - Email/Text Notifications.

December 8th - Hardcopy of NOA received (Priority Date 11/25).

December 9th - Biometrics Appointment Letter received.

December 19th - Biometrics Appointment.

January 4th 2017 - "In Line" for Interview.

June 9th - Online status changed to "Interview was Scheduled".

June 12th - Interview Letter received.

July 19th - Interview (NYC). Requested a "delayed Oath" for after September 4th 2017.

September 11th - Oath Letter received. Honored my request for a delayed Oath Ceremony. 

September 14th - Oath Ceremony.

I got my letter yesterday! I haven't been really checking my mailbox daily. In fact I didn't check it since I got the email last week.

Anyway I put my notice date under the Int Ltr column... and I'm set for an interview on July 21!

Yes. I applied after being married for 10 years, but I got divorced 2 years after getting the green card. My ex-husband and I got permanent resident status through his work 5 years ago. 

Be prepared to respond to questions directed at the legitimacy of your marriage. On a hunch, I added a picture of my wedding to the docs I gathered for my interview and she asked me if I had sent any evidence of my marriage, which I had (the marriage certificate), but she still made a copy of my wedding picture and added it to the file. In my case, the officer asked why we didn't have kids, fortunately for me, enough time has passed and I wasn't so emotional, but still caused me some struggle. She mentioned that she has seen people cry :(:P (I find it both funny and sad), and said she felt bad but it's part of her job. Another thing she told me is that they have all the information gathered in the file in front of them at the inteview, from the first visa I applied (more than 16 years ago) to date.

If you are still married, it won't be so problematic but still, you have to show proof of your tax returns regardless of your civil status, I would bring everything just in case, you never know what they will request.

Be prepared to respond to questions directed at the legitimacy of your marriage. On a hunch, I added a picture of my wedding to the docs I gathered for my interview and she asked me if I had sent any evidence of my marriage, which I had (the marriage certificate), but she still made a copy of my wedding picture and added it to the file. In my case, the officer asked why we didn't have kids, fortunately for me, enough time has passed and I wasn't so emotional, but still caused me some struggle. She mentioned that she has seen people cry :(:P (I find it both funny and sad), and said she felt bad but it's part of her job. Another thing she told me is that they have all the information gathered in the file in front of them at the inteview, from the first visa I applied (more than 16 years ago) to date.

If you are still married, it won't be so problematic but still, you have to show proof of your tax returns regardless of your civil status, I would bring everything just in case, you never know what they will request.

I will bring 5 years of tax returns and my marriage certificate. Hope that's enough.
