N-400 Naturalization Journey SAN FRANCISCO FIELD OFFICE

Total processing time from last successful submission to Oath Ceremony: 253 days (8 months and 11 days)

Spoiler

02/26/2012: Arrived SF airport. 

11/28/2016: Eligible for early-filling.

Day 00 - 12/23/2016: Sent N-400 + I-942 to Phoenix, AZ lockbox via USPS.

Day 03 - 12/26/2016: N-400 application marked delivered.

Day 25 - 01/17/2017: Sent email to support regards to application.

Day 26 - 01/18/2017: N-400 rejected because incorrect payment amount.

Day 32 - 01/24/2017: N-400 + I-942 resent.

Day 34 - 01/26/2017: N-400 application marked delivered.

Day 49 - 02/10/2017: N-400 rejected again because incorrect payment amount.

Day 52 - 02/13/2017: Email form USCIS support responded package was rejected in error (!?) for the first and second time submissions, they requested 3rd resubmission + tracking number in order to apply my earliest priority date. 

Day 52 - 02/13/2017: N-400 + I-942 resent on the same day, also sent a response to Lockbox to provide information to USCIS.

Day 54 (Day 0) - 02/15/2017: N-400 application marked delivered.

Day 62 (Day 8) - 02/23/2017: E-notification, E-mail from USCIS, E-mail from Support announced Resubmission was accepted.

Day 66 (Day 12)- 02/27/2017: Notice of Acceptance as Fees Waiver Approval received. (All fees were waived instead of reduced by half as supposed by filing form I-942)

Day 69 (Day 15) - 03/02/2017: Online Status Update: Fingerprint Appointment was scheduled. 

Day 70  (Day 16) - 03/03/2017: Fingerprint Appointment Letter received. Biometric will be on 3/15/17. 

Day 70  (Day 16) - 03/03/2017: Early Walked-In for Biometric at 3:45 PM.

Day 87 (Day 33) - 03/20/2017: Online Status Update: Case was placed in line for interview. 

Day 234 (Day 180) - 08/14/2017: Online Status Update: Interview has been scheduled.

Day 239 (Day 185) - 08/19/2017: Interview Letter received.

Day 269 (Day 215) - 09/18/2017: Interview 2:30 PM at USCIS SF Field Office. Recommended For Approval. 

Day 280 (Day 226) - 09/29/2017: Oath Ceremony Letter received. N400 is approved.

Day 291 (Day 237) - 10/10/2017: Last Online Status Update: Oath Letter was mailed. Too late!

Day 307 (Day 253) - 10/26/2017: Oath Ceremony in Oakland, CA. Citizenship granted.

Day 307 (Day 253) - 10/26/2017: Passport applied.

Day 321 (Day 267) - 11/09/2017: Passport Booklet received. 

Day 321 (Day 267) - 11/09/2017: Naturalization Certificate received. Journey done.

Ok. So a quick check on the processing time for St. Paul, MN (where mustang-sally just did her interview and oath at the same day), it is showing that they were processing April 1 applications as of January 31. Compared to my own field office, Las Vegas, which was processing May 18 as of Jan 31, and I haven't even gotten my interview date yet. I'm starting to doubt the accuracy of the information provided. It really feels like a guessing game at this point.

Immigrant fee paid on ELIS - Jan 24th

POE - Jan 25th

Update on GC and SSN

(as of March 14th, 2014)

ELIS status - Closed (Card produced)

USCIS case check with receipt number (starts with IOE) - Card delivered in the mail

SSN - Received (Went to SSA location to apply for one)

I live in West Wisconsin. One Thursday a month St.Paul holds interviews and a same day civil oath ceremony for applicants who live in West Wisconsin. Today there were just 23 of us in the oath ceremony. The whole day went so smooth. 

I was called in at 9am. I took the oath, the officer went through my application, asking me questions. I mentioned a speeding ticket from 3 years ago that I didn't put on the form, he asked if my fine was over $500, I said "no", so he just said not to worry about it. I had to read "Which State has the most people". Then had to write "California has the most people".

6 questions and that was it, we chatted about dogs, he said having me read and write English was funny. He asked about my drive up to Minneapolis. I had to wait about 30 minutes after the interview for my oath letter. We went shopping and came back at 2pm for the ceremony.

I mentioned this in another thread, but my personal feeling is that the posted dates simply provide an excuse if they are late getting to an application.  You call or make an infopass app, they are going to look at that date as gospel.  If your priority date is after that... sorry, can't help you.   Doesn't matter if you know one or ten people who got an interview.

 

If they were accurate at all, then nobody who filed past September should have had an interview schedule before Jan 31.  We know that's not the case. 

 

On a side note... congratulations mustang-sally!!

I suppose they think they're maintaining the security of the process by being deliberately vague.

 

I called customer service the other day and the lady insisted that the latest application they were *currently* processing was July 2nd 2016, even though I pointed out that the website clearly stated that that was "as of" Jan 31st 2017. I was told to "call back in 4 months".

 

And here I am, thinking that being able to read and understand English was a necessary qualification for US citizenship :)

I've been told many times the "as of Jan 31st 2017" is a mistake, and to refer to the date on the bottom right corner.  I think it's a ploy they use to quickly get you off the phone.

While I was waiting for my oath letter after my interview, one of the immigration officers came into the waiting area. He started talking to the receptionist in a loud voice about how the person being interviewed in his office had altered the interview date on their letter and now he was going to have to deny their whole application. He was very rude to the receptionist and made everyone in the room feel uncomfortable.

I couldn't believe that someone would jeopardize their future by doing something like that. :(

CONGRATULATIONS on becoming a US Citizen, what a proud moment!! That's such amazing news!

 

Are you freaking kidding me?!?! I know everyone really wants their case to progress but altering and falsifying a government document to get there? Not only will they deny this application, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have got themselves in serious immigration trouble :( Agree though - what an awkward situation!

Naturalization Journey (Based on 5 years as a PR):

November 21st 2016 - Sent N-400 to Dallas Lockbox.

November 30th - Check Cashed.

December 1st - Email/Text Notifications.

December 8th - Hardcopy of NOA received (Priority Date 11/25).

December 9th - Biometrics Appointment Letter received.

December 19th - Biometrics Appointment.

January 4th 2017 - "In Line" for Interview.

June 9th - Online status changed to "Interview was Scheduled".

June 12th - Interview Letter received.

July 19th - Interview (NYC). Requested a "delayed Oath" for after September 4th 2017.

September 11th - Oath Letter received. Honored my request for a delayed Oath Ceremony. 

September 14th - Oath Ceremony.
