Thanks. If you're traveling in less than two weeks, you cannot simply use the expedited service, you need to apply for a passport through a passport agency with proof of international travel within two weeks.

 

They will only take appointments from people who need to travel in two weeks or less, and they can provide you with a passport as soon as the same day or next day, with the speed adapted to how soon you actually need the document. They will also handle applications from people who need to travel within four weeks if they also need to apply for a visa for the country they're visiting.

If you're traveling in less than 8 business days, you will pick up the passport at the passport agency, otherwise they'll mail it to you.

Hi Vegasbound... I'm actually updating this again. I've been in line for interview since Dec 27, 2016 (just like you! :)) I just didn't bother updating my timeline here until now.

I did however get an email notification yesterday that they have mailed me my interview notice. I guess I just have to wait for that in the mail before I update my interview letter date.

A HUGE congratulations to all my fellow November filers that are getting interviews, oaths and some who are now US Citizens!

 

I took a bit of a hiatus from thinking about immigration in a hope that if I didn't think about it, something would miraculously happen...no such luck!

 

So I called USCIS today (for the first time) and spoke with an L2 officer so that I could get an update on my case, as I had my biometrics appointment back in December and I've been line for over 5 months at this point. However when I called I got a response I wasn't expecting...my case is still at the National Benefits Center and not at my local office! Does anyone know if this is normal at this stage in the process? Should I be worried?

@fluff5 I was actually wondering whether that would be the case because it couldn't be that you are only put 'in-line' now since you had your biometrics done back in Dec. That's awesome news that a Las Vegas filer is moving along! Since we have the same 'in-line' dates, I'm hoping to hear something next week or so. Fingers crossed!

Those are good news, maybe next week we hear something about the interview, i'm in line since Jan 4

I wanted to follow up about what I said about passport agency appointments, you can make an appointment as early as 4 weeks before your international travel date, it's just that the actual appointment will be made for no earlier than 2 weeks before the travel date. For example, on June 9, I was able to schedule an appointment for June 22 for an international trip on July 1.

 

It seems that they are able to schedule appointments for up to two weeks in the future (perhaps more if you need time to apply for a visa), and I found that depending on the date I said I was flying, there were different dates made available to me (within the 2 week window before the flight).

 

This is helpful because it allows me to secure a passport agency appointment for the day immediately after my oath ceremony soon after I know the date of the ceremony.

This is weird, by this time I would expect your case to be here, in NYC, at the local office. But then again - I just found an envelope from my interview appointment letter, and it was sent from National Benefits Center in Missouri..

Hey there @Friend16 thank you for your response! I found it so weird and it completely freaked me out. I however went online just now and my interview was scheduled on June 9th, so the exact same day I called and the L2 officer! It's all very strange, but I'm just so happy that I've got my interview scheduled :-D I'll take a look at what it says on my interview letter envelope when I get it, as that's odd. Then again,  I learned there's no rhyme or reason to this process sometimes! :-P

Yay, congrats! BTW, how did you get to speak to L2 officer? I called USCIS on Friday to ask about the date of my oath ceremony, and the L1 person said they did not know the date, since it was scheduled by the local office. :-/ I am wondering if I should call them again tomorrow and ask to speak to L2, since they have more information..

Thank you!  The L1 officer said something very similar to me, so i politely but firmly said "I appreciate what you're saying, but I would now like to be transferred to an L2 officer, thank you" It seemed to do the trick. I actually also got the option of leaving my number on the automated system and the L2 officer called me back when it was my turn in the queue. I think I waited around 15 minutes for the call back. 

 

I also want to add that i've heard the best days for calling are Wednesday to Friday!

I finally got to speak with L2. they said my case is still at NBC, they don't see whether it's background check holding it or something else. Some time before I've submitted case inquiry - notice not received. They told me to call June 17th.
