I broke down and bought some new shampoo, telling my fiance I was working on making myself more British via osmosis. My hair smells Boots fresh now.

That sounds odd.

Yes it IS overly expensive for a drugstore brand, but I think if I bought it in the UK, it would probably work out to be the same right?

Oops, except Boots uk is having a 2 for 5 quid sale on the same kind of shampoo I just bought. So perhaps it was a bit more here. But if you consider that's 2 fo 10 bucks american, that would've been savings. Regular price is 2.99 GBP, so that's about the same as I paid American.

Small bottle and my hair isn't magically wonderful today, but what the hell, right?

I'd still be more excited over Superdrug since the name is cooler, as is the retro star logo.

formed a deep and meaningful relationship with curl creams/potions/etc. Now I can sleep longer, my hair looks healthy and sexy and I no longer shed tons and tons of hair. I can't honestly say I miss my hairdryer or my straightener one bit!

OK, I googled, but what's SFB?

You might enjoy the site naturallycurly.com and/or the book Curly Girl--it's really useful for balancing all that product & effort with what nature is going to do anyway! I've ditched the dreaded 'cones and, believe it or not, all that expensive shampoo! In fact, we had a No Poo thread going here for awhile.. some new folk trying it out. I got into it when I was shopping around to have my hair straightened at a salon---so glad I didn't! :)

The only thing I've ever bought in Superdrug is crisps and cans of coke.

Whenever my American friends visit, Lush is the first place they want to go...Boots is #2 on the list. I don't get it; it's just a drugstore.   I buy my shampoo at Sainsbury's...I get whatever's on sale. Right now I'm working my way through a giant bottle of Tresemme. Whatever I use on my hair it always comes out limp and flat, so I don't see the point of spending a tenner on a bottle of shampoo when my hair is still going to look like #######.

One of things I missed most in the UK was American drugstores - no one understood why Boots wasn't a suitable replacement

I don't really miss Boots but I do miss No 7 foundation - it was perfect

So what is so great about US drug stores? In California, they're the cheapest place to buy beer, which is about the best thing i can say. Otherwise, its generally cheaper to buy what they sell in Target or even the supermarket.

Thrifty Ice Cream from Long's Drugs is good, but I just don't get US drug stores. Too much overpriced, and low quality ####### in them for my liking. They kind of remind me of mini Wal-marts. I feel the same way about Superdrug in the UK really. Boots at least had products that were exclusive to their stores, and the shops are bright and clean.

This isn't an attack BTW, I genuinely don't understand the appeal, even after living in the USA for 8 years. Now I live in Pennsylvania, where they don't sell beer or Thrifty Ice cream in Drug Stores, I haven't set foot in one for 3 years and can't think why I would.

I guess I'm the only person coming from the UK who isn't going to miss Boots!

I STILL miss Ulta...damn, I'm looking forward to getting into that place. There and Sephora. Mmmmm.

And Pottery Barn.

And Bath & Body Works.

Because in my local drugstore I can buy shampoo, a hammer, a birthday card, a magazine, a beach towel, beer, nail polish and pick up a prescription all in one trip in a store with only 5 aisles. THe one near where I grew up used to sell fine jewelry (not costume jewelry, diamonds with 5 carats) and had a fountain where you could get milkshakes. You don't really get this kind of place in the UK.

I don't dislike Boots -- they're products are okay, but there's nothing reallly I can't get here and I don't really miss them (except #7 foundation)
