Yeah my wife's back in the US starting a job and fixing us up with a place to live.

That's great about it being only a few days from NOA2 to getting a case number. I thought it might be 3 weeks from other stories I've heard. Good luck all.

It'll come, and will be worth it in the end. In some ways I wish I could go back and start working and setting things up for us - I know it'll make things easier and is the "responsible" thing to do. But I just can't. I think that people who haven't been in a situation like all of us have, they can't fully understand how being apart you're missing a little piece of you.

Jan 3 wow. Is there any suggestion that an earlier appointment might become available for you?

I only checked once. We were trying to get over by Thanksgiving, then Christmas, but when that looked out of the picture I stopped bothering.

Two months. I just don't think that's going to be possible. Crazy business this.

You can visit her while going through the process. just make sure to be able to prove upon entry that you'll be returning the uk

Thanks, do you know how to prove that?

A booked return flight is a good start (and the most common piece of evidence asked for on the rare occasions they're not sure you're going back), that you have a job and home in the UK are also good evidence. Plus, you have an appointment with the US embassy to attend, which is a pretty big sign that you're not intending to be an illegal immigrant.

The embassy tends to get a little behind at this time of year because of days off for Thanksgiving, staff travelling to see family in the USA for the holidays, etc.

Thanks for the advice. I don't have a job or a home but maybe it'll be ok. It's the idea that it'll be April for the move when I was thinking January that's difficult.

I understand the pain of finding out it'll be much longer than you were hoping for. I think the appointment and return flight would be enough, if anything they may question you more.

Sorry of this is a thread hijack but since it sounds like some of you very recently filed DCF at London Embassy - Can you tell me what you did for your payment for I-130? Were you able to get a USD money order or something locally here in the UK? Right now the only thing I can think of for my payment is to have a friend send me a USPS Money Order from the states.

Sorry I can't help, they still took credit cards when I applied, so I used my Discover. Do you still have a bank back home? If so they might send you a money order. Mine would have (they've been beyond awesome with me being here)

Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately no, I have been abroad for 7+ years so no normal bank back home - just investment stuff which wont issue a money order.

I also got in before the credit card rule changed.

It's not a problem though, if you have a UK bank account with one of the majors. What the embassy calls an "international bank draft" the UK banking industry calls a foreign draft. Tell your bank you need a foreign draft for $however much it is now, payable to US DHS. The bank'll usually charge you about 20 quid on top and send it to you in a week.
