I am trying to understand all of this information on vaccinations......

I am in the same situation, I contacted my regional health in my province, and they don't have my records of immunizations when I was a child.

I have made an appointment with my local doctor to get blood work done to confirm that I have had some of these immunizations already.

I will get the flu shot and a tetanus, but I am worried about the tdap - dipheria and tetanus together. I had a nurse tell me that in Canada, this tdap is done over 3 shots, months apart! I don't have that much time - medical on Dec. 15, and interview on Dec. 21 in Montreal.

Will I be able to get all my shots down here in my home province, before my medical? Will immigration accept bloodwork results? Will immigration accept one of tdap shots, if that is what is required?

What about the rest.....

Diphtheria toxoids

Haemophilus Influenza Type B (Hib) Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Influenza
Measles

Meningococcal Rubella Mumps Tetanus Pertussis Varicella Pneumococcal

Polio Rotavirus

I had no idea that I needed to start this process months ago, as I assumed my medical records would show my immunizations.

Thank you so much VJ!

C

Hep A + B is not a requriment.

You don't need the vaccines to get your visa or enter the states but you need them to AOS so if there is any you can't get them all of them you can get them here. They should be able to see that you have had them as a child and that is perfectly fine they will put it done on the DS-3025 (vaccination sheet)

Thank you Georgia16.

I was doing some more reading on the CDC site - it looks like I need to get:

td/tdap, MMR, varicella and my flu shot.

But are you saying that I wouldn't need to do this?

Yes you will need it to AOS (adjust your status - getting your Green Card) after you arrive and marry your USC. It can be very expensive to get it here in the US so get the blood test to prove as much as possible and see if you can get the rest there too. All I'm saying is you don't have to panic if you can't get them all before interview.

You will need the MMR and Td. You were probably due for a tetanus booster anyway.

You can get blood titers instead of the shots, but it isn't usually any cheaper.

Varicella is only if you didn't have chickenpox as a child. You will tell the doctor verbally whether you've had it or not.

Flu shot is when in season. They'll let you know if you need it.

Is there anywhere else that might have them like a school or old doctor?

In the past, Canadian medical exams were NOT released until you got the vaccines - so the bolded part might be incorrect for Canada. I would read recent medical reviews or call the dr. office to confirm.

Thank you Lemonslice. I don't want to risk anything and I would rather get all the immunizations here in Canada while I can. Hopefully the blood work will show some information about chicken pox and MMR, then I would only need to get the tdap and flu shot.

you seem to have the correct list now for your age group, all the Dr's websites for immigration medicals have the vaccination list. I recall getting a tetanus shot at my own Dr just because I was due and at least it was covered by the province.

Do everything BEFORE the medical. Generally speaking the Tdap and MMR should be free through provincial health care, especially if you had the titres done (aka checked your immunity.)
