Hello, this thread has probably been made a thousand times but my research skills at times can be a bit sub-par!

I have just graduated from University (I did a degree in Computer Networks) and it has always been a dream of mine to live and work in the USA. I have gone to the American embassy in London to get some more information on how I can obtain a visa or a working visa and there was no information or help available so I thought after searching the web for a while I would sign up to a forum where people can help a brother out!

From what I know, I need to get sponsorship from a company in the states for me to be able to come over and work but every company I apply for seems to not be interested as it is a lot of paperwork and a lot of stress on their side. Does anyone know of any other options for gaining a visa I can take? Canada offer a 2-year travelling and working visa which I have applied for but does the American government offer something similar?

Any guidance or help would be appreciated, thanks for your time and if there is any other questions which I have no covered I can answer them! :D

Look at a J1 for a temporary option, the Ski resorts in Colorado use the J1 for example.

Not sure you will be attractive for a work visa, longer term plan is to work in the UK with a company with US operations and transfer.

I would say that it is extremely unlikely for you to get the work visa (H1B). It is costly for the company to sponsor someone and in the recent years H1B applicants have to go through the "lottery" because of the amount of people applying and the very limited spots. So companies are less willing to sponsor nowadays, let alone for a college graduate overseas.

An option for you is to apply for a graduate school here in the US and obtain F1 visa. You can work part time during school and once you graduate you have 1 year of OPT (I believe for computer majors there is even a 24 month extension) to work. That way you have a much higher chance of finding a company willing to sponsor.

Or - as Boiler mentioned, you can work for a UK company with US operations and transfer. I believe that is L1 visa.

I was considering that a few years ago by doing Camp America but I wanted to stick to my field. Finding a company here who have offices in America is what I've tried but I've had no luck getting a job with the companys I've tried. I've decided to gain more expereince to make me more apealing which is my long term option. Ideally I want to move there now.

I am not looking to study anymore really, I've had enough of it and the debt has already accumulated into a high number

Somebody I know has a small Hotel and obtained a couple of J1's for the summer. They ended up reconfiguring her IT system, Booking system etc, so it is not just cleaning toilets, though they did a bit of that as well.

I tried this method of contacting a few programs. They said you need to find a company to host you shamefully.
