Another question... So the worldwide income.... what about if I was self employed in my country... so informal jobs...that usually the one that pay took of the taxes... so I did not reporting myself...   HOW to do that?  Just to put a cold number on the form? Asumming I wont be taxed here... as I dont have income here

afaik the 1040 only has one income section... you add them up to a total... that's what joint filing is.

You will have a tax form from your home country that gives a total amount right? Well I read that you take the amount and do a currency conversion using the average currency rate over the time of when the income was earned. So if earned in June 2016 then you would look at the average dollar value over June (if payed same month) and use that.. adding up all months and taking out the taxes payed... that is your foreign earned income... as far as i understand.

I have nothing on paper from there... it was all informal...So I guess I will have to put a cold number for the income I got until I entered the country here.

You will still have to estimate it over the time it was earned... If you were payed monthly then average over month.. if weekly then over week... You can't average over the whole year. I'm assuming you weren't payed in one big lump sum

Yes... and the other time they paid the difference between the price of job and the tax.... and they paid taxed directly... so I did not bother with that

Did you deposit into an account? IS there ANY evidence at all that you got the money? and how much? bank statement? You don't need this for filing the taxes, but you will need it if audited...

I obviously have no idea how it works in DR. In Sweden that would be illegal earnings lol and I wouldn't be able to claim that sort of income anywhere

Was reading some FAQ's now that actually say that you can do a year average.. That would simplify it a little at least... Here is a link with some FAQ's of interest:

"If you have a single transaction, such as the sale of a business that occurred on a single day, use the exchange rate for that day. However, if you receive income evenly throughout the tax year, you may translate the foreign currency to U.S. dollars using the yearly average currency exchange rate for the tax year. "

This link also says, that under certain circumstances you can get the spousal exemption for both when filing separately.. Could be good reading for many of us in here

Not illegal... for exampole here in US if you pay to someone else in another country you have to retain the taxes for that.. as the foreign party dont pay to IRS...  IT is same thing... I did an informal job.. and they retained taxes....  AND HOPEFULLY they payed them to goverment....

Well yes that's what all employers do, but what I mean is if you don't get a "pay stub" or similar it isn't documented.. That's what is illegal in Sweden.. They would have to give me a breakdown of wages and taxes withheld so I can then properly file my taxes. In Sweden this is in fact automatically filled in on a tax form come tax season and I just needed to e-sign, but I would need my pay stub to verify that the employer provided the tax agency with the correct information..

there will be no stamp available.

The restriction on your ssn can only be taken off when you have a green card. You'll be able to work if you have the ead card plus ssn

 

2- you'll have to research your own country rules, procedures, etc. maybe try and go to your regional forum, there should be threads with people talking about things like that, google it, etc

As far as I remember I don't need an EAD card when I have the GreenCard (which is in the making) and I got approved for my I 485. 

 

But it yeah I will wait until I get the GC and walk to the SSA after that to show them and to get my restrictions removed.
