Oh it took me a week reading irs publications and obviously I still needed guidance from fellow vjers.. yes the US tax laws are CRAZY!! There are so many rules and atleast a dussin variations and/or exceptions to each of them! And being an immigrant it just becomes that much more complicated.. I'm glad I'm in Texas that don't have state taxes...atleast i only have to learn the federal ones! Hahahaha

Back in Sweden unless rly special circumstances (like you sold a house or did renovations on one) everything is reported and calculated automatically,  and you log-in online double check and sign electronically... used to take me like 10 minutes tops...

Here you have to investigate any possible exclusions/exemptions/credits by yourself, or have a professional do it for you, to get the best possible outcome and it can save you thousands... It'll take some getting used to for sure.. :)

well the time from NOA1 to EAD is currently around 90 days. You can check the VJ processing times to see when/if this changes (or USCIS). As for AOS notifications it can take anywhere from about 1-4 months or so to just get the "case ready to be scheduled for interview"-notification.  My bio was 7th... not worried :P

Also check your timeline for when VJ estimates your EAD to be adjudicated... it normally gives a good estimate.

Thank you for the answer!
Another question, is your status changed on USCIS for the AOS

It always strikes me as strange when people ask advice about taxes on an immigration website. But then I forget I have an advantage because my father is a CPA. I've never had to worry about filing taxes, he has done them for me my whole life.

I believe you can claim your husband or get some credit if they don't work. Idk I'll have to ask my dad lol.

Sometimes they can't read the fingerprints well enough when putting it through the security databases.. I've seen it happen, not often, but regularly. Don't worry, you should be fine :)

Waiting for a callback from USCIS est time, 169 Minutes!!!  The call was escalated but the first operator asked me if I had received both within 30 days of each other, I guess this might indicate that it was automated it should be ignored but I don't want to take any chances!

So here's the scoop:

Married Filing Joint:

If one spouse is unemployed it lowers your tax bracket/tax liability.  You do not claim them as a dependent but you do get a small tax break if they do not work.  In my personal situation it will give me approximately an extra $275 tax credit.  Not a big deal but its something I guess.  Come on EAD!!

I had my biometrics today at 11am. I got nervous when they gave me a paper to fill up with information that I thought I didn't know. Phone number, weight in pounds, height in feet and inches, my SSN, Applicants number...etc. But I asked a guy who was extremely friendly and he said they didn't need my phone number, I could use kg and meters, and the applicants number doesn't matter because I had it on the Biometrics appointment letter hehe. Oh and the SSN wasn't necessary because I had the USCIS A#. The room was half full so I waited 15 minutes until my number was called. Another extremely nice guy took a photo and moved my fingers to scan them lol and then I left. This is the most friendly office I've ever been :)
