Anita,

Could you please let me know the procedure for changing name / last name of the Petitioner ( like you did ). Thanks

What procedure?  Use your marriage certificate and start contacting banks, credit companies, utilities, SS office, etc and inform them you are married and have New last name.  Some will ask to see your marriage license. Some will not. I am the petitioner. I just put my new name on all the forms. It has a place for your maiden name.   You can see an example in the example forms guide.

Hey guys. I just saw that my form I485 says today it has been scheduled for interview?! I thought it would be way after I get the EAD but here I am I suppose. I'm confused by the good news though. Does that mean that I will have my green card in the next month or less? Or would it need more processing after the interview? And I have almost no proof collected so far. We've been married for only 2 months! All I can bring is a phone plan, mail at the same address to both of us and pictures with friends and family and their affidavits. Any advice?

Impossible to know... some have that status for a year..mostly if you actually do get an interview (atleast that's what I saw from going over timelines from my local office) some have it for a few months... (again 2-5 from local office, non-interview)... it just means you're through the application check as far as I can see and on to the next step...which of course also is still great news :) so congrats!

like changing the name on passport and other documents? yeah for SSN you just need the marriage certificate.  But is it wise to change name after the I-485 is approved or it doesn't matter at all ?

It doesn't matter you just start doing it :) some documents take longer than others. The marriage certificate is always your proof, for any of them :)

Happy New Year sree-yash and all November filers! 2016 was the year many of us took our big journey here. 2017 will be the year we become part of the US and many of us can start work and building a life! Good luck to you all :dancing:

I'm not changing my name on any pieces of identification like drivers license or passport until they expire.  If it's necessary to travel before then,  I can book plane tickets in my maiden name.

But if you want to do it now just get a passport application and submit for a new passport.  You can go online, post office, or library. I renewed my last passport online used google to find their website.  Make sure you're on a government website

our situation is where my wife is the petitioner ( the US Citizen) and am the beneficiary. It is she who wants to take my last name and wishes to change it on her D/L, Passport and other Identity Documents.

But the thing is when the marriage license was issued (and on subsequent marriage certificate) she kept her name as it is ( since she wasn't sure about taking my last name then).

Lioness is also the USC... and I'm unsure about how it works if you're in a state where they put your married name on the certificate.. In Texas it only has the maiden name.

I would try just doing a google search for it and if you can't get an answer call the county clerk's office and ask. Or maybe someone on here knows :)

sorry not super helpful hahahah

Yes, I understood that, I too am the petitioner.   Does the marriage license list the place that says "new name after marriage is_____"?  It should just be a simple matter of taking your marriage license to show the husband's last name to change things.

We were married in the state Georgia. Our marriage certificate does not have any place to list a new name.  Does yours?

Ours just shows my full name (maiden name)and his name and so I'm just using that to change my name to his.   It's been three months since we got married and I'm still in the process of changing my name on things.

We are in Ohio. They put only the Maiden name  ( or name as per the ID document shown) on the marriage license. I found a service named hitchswitch when I googled. Sounds easy , of course for a fee. And they mail it to us after everything is done.

My Question is will a name change affect AoS process or Interview ?

Thanks for the reply. No, there;s no such line or space on the marriage license. We were married and living in Ohio.
