You get a stamp in your passport as proof of your legal status in the country if you for some reason don't have a greencard.

For instance if your greencard gets lost you can get a stamp while waiting for your new greencard (it can take up to a year to replace your greencard), or if your greencard had some errors and you had to send it back you can get a stamp. So those who have a greencard or have a greencard coming their way won't get a stamp, they will just be told to wait until the physical greencard shows up. To get a stamp you need to provide USCIS with proof that you have a pending application (that you ordered a new card etc).

You get a stamp by making an infopass.

I see, thank you! I don't think i'll be doing it anytime soon, my nearest office is 4hrs away...

It can take a few days or even a couple of weeks. Often the person interviewing doesn't have the authority to approve an application but must get the approval from a supervisor, which can take a little while. I'm sure you'll get your approval soon enough.

Thanks for your answer, but what do you mean the IO doesn’t have authority to approve online application? If so why she is the person who interview us and decide to approve or not?

Thank you very much.

Hi all.  We filed for AOS from TN-1 to marriage-based green card in November 2016.  Our case was received on 11/22/16, AP mailed 3/22/2016, interview notice mailed 9/19/17, and just had our interview today (10/25/17).  It was nerve-racking in the beginning because the office could not find my husband's file at first.  We are in Manhattan, and apparently the NYC office recently moved around all of their files and is having difficulty locating files at the moment, which is something to be aware of if you have an upcoming interview there.  They initially told us we would have to come back once they found his file, which made me incredibly upset since we had waited nearly a year just to have this interview.  Thankfully, they located it in the end.  All of that took close to two hours, but the ISO was very nice and the interview itself went smoothly.  He asked us where we met and where/how many times we had traveled together internationally; had each of us verify the other's full name, DOB, place of birth, place of employment, and parents' names; requested to see originals of our driver's licenses, passports (current and expired), birth certificates, and marriage certificate (and also requested photocopies, which we had on hand); and requested to see documentation supporting our marriage.  We gave him our lease, joint account statements, and photos of us together over the years.  He conditionally approved us and told us he is going to formally approve our application sometime this week, and to expect the green card in the mail approximately two weeks after the formal approval goes through.

We're not going to celebrate until we have the green card in hand, but I'm so relieved to be done with the interview.  Good luck to everyone who is going through the process.  It's an incredible amount of work and a lot of waiting......my husband is basically a slam dunk to get approved for a green card and become a USC if he wants to, but it's been far from easy even for us.  My parents immigrated here in the 1980s and their experience was much more difficult than ours, so I cannot imagine how much of a pain it must be for others.

Hey Guys,

I have a question.

I received a notice from USCIS in April 2017, that they didn't receive my I-693 form. (I sent all the papers to them that was done for my K1 Visa) but they said I will need to send or provide the papers later only either on the interview or if they request another RFE about it..

So we went ahead and quickly did the tests done and the form refilled by a civil physician here in the States. But still no notification or anything from them since then so I just kept them.

BUT I just saw that the form will be renewed next January, so I called the physician who I went to in April (she filled my paper on 27th April) if I am going to need the new form refilled or not? And she said since the tests are older then 6 months I will need to redo them, plus since it is a flu season I am going to need flushot....

REally???!!! Someone knows the answer for this? Would I need to redo the tests and fill out the new form, or not?

-feeling furious...

Thanks in advance!

They lost my i-693 also and told me i may need new ones but i waited and after the interview was approved regardless so idk if they found it or not. I would probably wait and explain what happened because it’s actually supposed to be valid for one year and they should have your old one anyway.

Does anyone else in here have citizenship from a country impacted by the travel ban?

I suspect that the reason our case has not been transferred from the NBC to our local office yet is most likely due to that. At the past couple of infopass appointments, we were told it looks okay, but I'm not sure why it wouldn't have at least made its way to the local office yet, since our field office is processing i-485 cases as of January 10, 2017.

I also haven't received responses on the past two SRs (one filed in August, and one in November). They both recently got assigned to an officer for processing, but I have a feeling our case may be on hold indefinitely? Does anyone have any info or insight on this?

We have another infopass appt coming up, so we're hoping to get some clarification. But my husband is planning on traveling back to Iran over the holidays with the AP document, but now we don't know what's going to happen.

The travel ban only affects those who applies for visas. Your husband filed for AOS. Security checks is usually what makes some AOS cases take longer time. USCIS hires other agencies to do these checks so it's not up to USCIS how fast they get the info.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to travel to Iran or any of the other affected countries right now when we don't really know all the new rules and how they will affect people travelling back to the US after such a visit, but in the end it's all up to you.
