So just to clarify with ead we get a full four years license and not a 1 year license?

Not here... Here it's temporary, but this too differs from state to state..

We spoke with the highest rank person on the DMV and told us the same. They can use I-797 but not this one, we need to have I-797A not the I-797C ( NOA1 ) . so i need to wait until I get the EAD and after that they would give me a permanent DV (  4 years ) . The same thing I was told 3-4 times already by other DMV's. So...if someone in Chicago IL can do it i really want to know where and how lol.

It really sucks. There is no sense in them not allowing documents that are verifiable... but what can you do.. :/

If you have family in another state, open a bank account in that state and then use that DMV and license until GC :)

My husband was able to take the written driver's license  today. All they asked for was his I-94. It was expired but they accepted the I-797c receipt and allowed him to take the test. We live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

I'm in North Carolina, I was allowed to get a license with my expired I-94 and NOA1 from my AOS.  However I only got an extension of six months -- so it expires in May.  However, once I get the EAD I get take it in and they will extend it further.  Eventually I assume the green card will allow me more time.

Hello again,

Finally my EAD status has changed to "New card is being produced" this morning. I am adjusting status from F1 Visa. I sent my documents on 2 of November and they received on 7th of November. Anyway, how long does it take to get a EAD in hand after it is being produced? PS. I have put on USCIS service request 02/02/2016 as @Suss&camm suggested me to do and my status changed a week after i did it.

Thank you

Congrats!!! I did the same thing as you! They received my documents on Nov 7th and I opened a USCIS service request on Feb 2nd. But my status haven't changed at all. My case is active for 94 days :(

We received our approval on Tuesday - on day #95. I think yours should be coming up soon - be patient. We even had an RFE on our I-485. Now I'm just waiting for the USCIS website to say they mailed the card. Just says new card is being produced. Haha this whole process sucks. Sometimes I wish I didn't know about this forum - since I feel the need to check all the time!

I wanted to let everybody know that I got the letter from the DMV today and my lawful presence is verified. Yayyy! So tomorrow I'll go take the written test :D

This means that the NOA1 from AOS is an accepted document! Cause my i-94 is expired and I haven't yet gotten my EAD. I should have done this ages ago, instead of worrying so much.

Thank you for this!  I took my husband to the Ohio BMV today and they accepted his passport, SS card, and NOA1 not a question asked.  He will be driving soon and is very happy.

I wasn't going to even try it until he got his EAD until I saw your post yesterday.

That's awesome!  FInally a bit of freedom huh!  He only had a learners permit in JA so he has to take the road test.  But he'll do fine he's a great driver.
