If you look on the left side of each post, there is a link where it says "timeline" for all poster/profiles. It's also on your profile page, and you can access it from the menu in the top right corner as well. VJ is just VisaJourney... When you go there it will tell you to add/edit your timeline and fill in all your important dates , such as filing dates NOA dates etc. This contributes to the processing times estimated by VisaJourney for all users.

I spoke to my husband and we are going for a walk when he gets off work :)

I had a hard time going to sleep last night.. I think that's part of my problem...so I had some ZzzQuill after trying for 2 hrs and I passed right out :D

So good to hear. How is your day today so far? Any plans? How was the walk?

Hey my mother in law just asked me if I would like to get 15dollars in answering the phone at her job for an hour... It's not legal and I'm kind of scared with the immigration. But I don't know if she would understand if I say no...
Also I feel like I've been prisonner at home for too long and it will be really stressful to go back to the real word and work. How everyone feels about that? I really want to go back to work for sure but I'm also a stressed person and I know it will be difficult at first!

It's not like your information will be put into their system and you'll be paid with checks, I assume your mother in law would give you cash. Like others have mentioned, USCIS doesn't much care about this, they'd prefer you wouldn't do it, but they're not going to deny you or arrest you just because you're trying to put some food on the table. My lawyer said the same thing, she said they understand that people need to survive.  My husband's uncle is married to a lady from Scotland, she overstayed 8 years, and she worked the whole time that she was out of status (she was a housekeeper). Then when they got married she adjusted her status and her work history wasn't a problem.

Honestly answering the phone for an hour is hardly a job IMO lol, it sounds more like you'd be getting a tip as a thank you ? Same goes for babysitting a dog.

I'm not advising anything though, I'm just pointing out that it wouldn't be that big of an issue if you decide to do it.

Thank you for your answer, I wasn't sure and it was for yesterday, so just in case I said no. But I would know for next time! But I really hope the EAD will come soon enough!

Ohh thank you for saying this!!!! I got super worried because I thought it will be an issue for me. I watched my husband's co-worker dogs. I've done it twice already. But we already sent our AOS last November and just waiting for EAD just like others on this forum. I accepted it mainly because I wanted to get out of the house as well since they let us stay in their beautiful house while they are away for a week. I didn't expect to get anything but they were kind enough to give me something. Also I think it's crazy to think that you will be arrested just because you watched somebody's dog and they pay you. Anyway I'm glad to read your opinion.

Quick question about the next steps before I get my GC in the mail which can take quite a while.

Question 1

I wonder if I can get a stamp (through infopass appointment) in my passport to prove my eliability to work in the US. Background: I already own a SSN with restrictions and wonder if I could swing by at the SSA (Social Security Administration) to file for a SSN without restrictions. This would save me some time to be ready to apply for jobs and start working.

What do you think?

Question 2

Is there any guide which I can follow to get a feeling of what I have to look for to settle here in the US? I live here now since 3 years (F1) but I wonder what I have to do regarding my home country and so forth. Please let me know if anybody has some infos about this. Thanks!

1- your proof will be the ead/ Ap combo card. Have you applied for work authorization with the i765 form when you sent your aos?

there will be no stamp available.

The restriction on your ssn can only be taken off when you have a green card. You'll be able to work if you have the ead card plus ssn

2- you'll have to research your own country rules, procedures, etc. maybe try and go to your regional forum, there should be threads with people talking about things like that, google it, etc

One thing that is that worry me most.

As november filers... we should ge all out EAD cards in February, right? In my case they received my papers on November 21.  And I did my biometrics on Jan 6...  So.. it is tax season.

I was about to get a TIN number so my wife did her taxes... But I learned it takes 7 weeks to get it. Then if I can get the EAD card on FEB I guess it is the same time to get the SSN.

HOW are you planning to do your taxes together as a couple?

You have up to April to file that so I'm guessing most person will wait until after receiving EAD to file...

I am so confused now. Why do I have to wait to file the taxes? I have a SSN but I didn't work here last year. Do we still have to wait to file his taxes?

No if you have a SSN you don't need to wait.

The OP was worried about filing taxes without a SSN.
