I spent time writing one good cover letter that I use when I apply; I obviously change few things when I apply to jobs. I started to apply before the EAD because the process is lengthy: many rounds, assessments, background checks. I am hoping to be productive by march at the latest, otherwise it would be a bad situation.

Also, did you take the learner's permit test? I don't know the laws in Texas, but in PA all immigrants have to take a learner's permit, which allows them to drive with a 21 years old (ridiculous) and after few months they can schedule the driving test to obtain their driving license.

Hmm.. from what I read I think I can just take the driver's and written tests right away when I have the EAD here in Tx ..but I'll double check.  That feels like smth that's easy to miss...

Yea I have a base letter aswell... some jobs require a bit more work in changing than others ofc :)

Well the job that I did apply for I had to answer if I was authorized to work.. there was no good option for "authorized within short" :/ and then I had to sign that everything I said was truthful... so that's a hard/confusing step to overcome..

Under the K-1 visa class, it says "Legal alien allowed to work". That's why I just pick authorized to work when applying!

Hopefully we get our documents soon EAD/GC and things start working out!

Is your SS card stamped "unauthorized to work without DHS approval"?

Yes I know this :) that's for social security though and technically we aren't allowed from an immigration perspective until the ead... but you know that :)

I reasoned the same way though and figured I can just explain that if asked

Mine is. ..I'm sure hers is too... the "Grey area" atleast gives an opportunity to say that it's basically just a matter of time if asked..

If going strictly by the book.. then we should ofc wait...

I figured if contacted I can explain.. if they are then interested and willing to wait good..if not also totally fine..

The social security administration verifies you and they write this on their site about cards with that statement:

"Shows your name and Social Security number with notes, "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION." We issue it to people lawfully admitted to the United States on a temporary basis who have DHS authorization to work."

yes it says Valid for Work Only with DHS authorization.

And I agree with Susan, it's a grey area, you can negotiate and it also depends whether the employer is trying to fill the role asap.

One companies said we can't move forward with your application, another one suggested to reach out once I do have it in hand. But I applied because I couldn't find anything else to do :D

I just wondered because there was controversy in another thread regarding checking the box that you're a K1 authorized to work or K1 on authorized to work. I just wondered if that made any difference on what was put on your Social Security card. My husband marked the box on authorized to work because we knew he wouldn't be without EAD.  His card has that stamp too. So I guess it really doesn't matter.

Yea I saw that thread... It doesn't matter for what it will say on the card no... cause they just put what DHS tells them I'm assuming. I guess it technically would be authorized..  but I guess it's like some of those other boxes on some applicaction forms (don't remember exactly which) where it doesn't matter if you say yes or no... :)

I've been here for 6 months too. I'm just glad that my husband's work allows him to have 3 days off in a week. We get to spend more time together. When I'm home alone I usually keep myself busy doing chores. I also love to cook so I go online and search for different recipes. Also my husband's colleagues are kind enough to help me out as well. When they go for vacation they usually ask me to watch their dogs for a week and when they get back they pay me. When my husband is at home then we go shopping together, watch movies, go to library and get books to read at home, and cuddles alot. So that helps me get my mind off things. Currently I'm on day 60. I had a job interview last week and I explain them my situation. They reassure me that I have nothing to worry about since they are willing to wait for me. It's a university job so I guess they are willing to wait if you are the right candidate for them. Anyway I hope we don't have to wait for too long so we can actually start living our lives.

I don't know if any of you have seen that tv show 90 Day Fiancé on TLC, but I'm in a discussion group about it on Facebook and there is an actual immigration officer on there who told us that K1s are able to work as soon as they arrive in the US (because you are given a SSN, right?) so she said you just have to go to a local office and apply for the EAD. However it still takes 90 days to get to you and by then it would be wedding time and then time to file for AOS, so I guess it wouldn't make sense to apply and pay for an EAD twice. Though this probably would work for people who can't file AOS immediately after wedding.

I'm not a K1 though so I don't know if this is entirely true. ??‍♀️

And personally, I'd probably have a job right now if I had my EAD. A couple weeks ago I was at Ulta buying makeup and some lady offered me a job at her financial firm LOL. She just randomly stopped me and asked how I got my hair so long, and as the conversation went on she asked what I did for a living; I explained my situation and she said she was hiring and if I was willing to keep my options open she would call me in a couple months to see where I'm at (regarding work authorization). It was hilarious I thought she was joking ??
