The same thing happened to me. I went in for my N-400 interview with I-751 pending here at Indianapolis Field Office. Even before IO took me back into the room for the interview, he told me in the corridor that he will not be able to approve my N-400 since my I-751 was still pending. Anyway, he proceeded with the questions and oath and then informed me I passed the test but have to wait for my I-751 approval. I asked him when will he able able to do that interview, he said he couldn't be sure but definitely not for another 35 days, and this was February 14th. I haven't heard anything back yet, so waiting just like I have been since Nov 2016.

Hello @genghiz , I'm sorry to hear about your experience. It seems a few officers are inexperienced and don't know how to dealing with a pending I-751 application. @AK_2014 and @Kate_H had a similar experience here in the Chicago office. Question for you : Did you take your spouse along for the interview ? Also did you file for your N-400 online ?

I'm in the same boat as you guys, and I found some info I wanted to share:

https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartG-Chapter5.html#footnotelink-6

It says:

"An application for naturalization may not be approved if there is a pending petition for removal of conditions. If an applicant’s petition to remove conditions is pending at the time of filing or is filed prior to the interview, USCIS will adjudicate the petition to remove conditions prior to or concurrently with the adjudication of the naturalization application. [6] "

"[6]An officer should conduct the naturalization examination even if the petition to remove conditions is not in the CPR spouse’s A-file. The officer should follow internal procedures to request the petition. The officer must not approve the CPR spouse’s naturalization application until the officer has reviewed and approved the petition to remove conditions."

CPR is Conditional Permanent Resident; I'm taking this as: If you have an interview, then they have to approve your I751 first then they can approve your N400. What do you guys think? What do they mean by CPR spouse's A-file?

Yes, if there is a pending ROC, the IO needs to approve your ROC before approving the naturalization petition.  What most officers miss is the “concurrently”.  This does not mean they need to wait for your ROC to be approved.  They can review the file, and if nothing contradicts your interview, they can approve that, then approve the N-400.

I filed N-400 online. And no, I did not take my spouse with me since they didn't mention/ask to bring her to the interview in the appointment letter. IO did not ask anything about my spouse.

This is so unprofessional that they couldn't check my I-751 status before scheduling my interview--if you see that it's still pending, have my case transferred to the local office prior to the N-400 interview so you could do it all in one sitting, schedule me and my spouse for the interview and be done. But they just LOVE to keep you hanging in the air. But like how someone said somewhere on this forum, "Immigration is a privilege, not a right", so can't do anything.

@genghiz Unfortunately, they don't look at your A-file ( your case file) before you step into the interview. Having your spouse present with you could mean that ask them to do an I-751 interview  which they might oblige to, it's USCIS so you never know ! Hopefully they review your I-751 within the next couple of days and approve the same.

I know exactly how you feel. Have you considered calling them to follow up on the case maybe?

I called them on 14th and all they could tell me was my case had been transferred to the local office and they will schedule an interview for an "unknown" date. Meanwhile, my N-400 estimated completion date was changed from June to October 2018, I just checked! This is only getting worse...

I think that this thread should be in an N-400 stream as this is  for I751 Nov filers ...

Due to the backlog on I-751, many of us went ahead and applied for N-400 so it's kind of correlated now.

Perhaps it's time to create a new N400 thread so separate the two streams?

I think the two are now correlated with one another, for future cases, (which is inevitable due to the increased I751 processing time) it might be ideal to have a forum topic that covers individuals who have filled I751 and N400 a year later.

There is an N400 thread already. But it is helpful to have a follow up for people non the same situation. At this point there is no update for individual 752 but all the updates are for Tha combined
