Just a quick update.

I had my N-400 interview today (with a pending ROC application). After reading much about it here on VJ, I was confident that it would be adjudicated prior to the citizenship interview, so I brought my husband along, and sure enough, we were called together to have the ROC interview first, and then he was made to leave so that I could go through the citizenship interview.

The officer did have my huge folder on her desk, and the conversation concerning the ROC was a friendly and pleasant one. She went through the details included in the application (for both interviews actually), and then asked very simple questions about our married life, friends, etc..

Considering I applied for citizenship in November of 2017, and it only took 4 months to go through the process, and also considering that CSC is still stuck on the month of September, I'll say I am VERY happy I went forward with the N-400 application.

Now all I have to do is wait for USCIS to schedule the Oath Ceremony, and then I'll finally be able to conclude this very long process.

Best of luck to everyone!

And thank you for sharing your experience.

I'm wondering: When you went to the N-400 interview, did you mention your pending ROC? Or the officer just automatically ask you about it?

I'm having my N-400 this Thursday, and I also have a pending ROC.

Thank you!

Thank you, qan714!

Happy to share more about it (that was actually a question I also had).

The officer called my name, and when I was within reach, she asked me if my spouse was also there, to which I replied that he was. So he invited us both in, and once we reached her office, she told me that the reason why she also wanted my spouse in is that we needed to process the ROC first, so that she could then proceed with the N-400 interview.

She had my huge ROC folder on her desk, together with everything else I've ever to them.

The ROC interview was more of a friendly chat. She obviously wanted to establish the bona fide relationship (my husband and I have been together 13 years), and that was very easy for us.

The N-400 interview was a thorough review of every single question on the form. I had reviewed it the day before and found a few things I needed to amend so that was very easy to do while she went through the form.

Hope this helps. Any other question, just ask.

All the best on Thursday!

Awesome, thank you for the details!

Do you think it's necessary for me to print out all my documents from my ROC application (i.e. evidence, pictures together, etc.) when I come in for my N-400? Just in case?

And when you amended the questions during N-400 interview, did the officer ask you why or give you a hard time? Did that prolong the whole interview process at all? I have one question that needs to be amended, too (It's the question about being "cited" by any officer for any reason. I put "No" on the application, but then realized that even parking ticket or texting ticket counts, so I'm not sure if I need to amend my answer..)

In addition, may I ask which state are you in? I'm in California.

Hi, qan 714!

We have very similar timelines. I also applied for ROC at CSC on 11/30/16 and for naturalization at the Santa Ana office on 11/27/17. The fact that you have your interview next Thursday gives me hope :) Did you get a notification that your ROC case was transferred to your local office before you got your naturalization interview notification?

I have signed up for both email and text notifications for both cases. I have received email notification today on my citizenship case that there were no updates made to my case since 12/5/17 when I did my biometrics. Judging by your timeline I should hear about my interview in two and a half weeks or so since I applied for ROC two and a half weeks later than you. I hope that is the case.

I am curious about parking tickets too. Do we have to mention those? Please let us know if you find out during your interview.

Best of luck next Thursday! Let us know how it went.

SO I called USCIS about my case which was transferred to the local office 2-25. They told me to expect it to be processed with my N-400 in August!

more wait :/

Yes, on my online account for naturalization it says I should expect it to be done in August as well. I think if you call, they just give you that standard 9-10 months after receipt of your application. But I am really hoping it'll go sooner than that. For some people who applied for naturalization at the same office as me, Santa Ana, CA, their interviews were already scheduled for March and April. But I think they say it'll take longer so that they are not bothered with calls if it actually ends up taking 10 months.

Infopass appt today to check in and they stated November is looking more like the month of May turnaround for i751....18months

Yes, it makes sense based on CSC processing end of September at the end of December. End of January they'll be working on beginning of October, end of February on end of October, end of March, beginning of November, and lastly end of April on end of November. So hopefully by end of May, all of us November filers will have an answer. Best of luck to everybody!

No worries!

RE the printouts, I think it depends on the officer. I brought some originals (marriage certificate and birth certificate of my husband) just in case, but she literally had everything in front of her, and she couldn't care less about anything I had. That being said, I've read of people being asked for originals, so if there is anything that you sent as a copy, make sure you back it up with the original, just in case.

RE the questions, funny you asked, as I actually put YES to the question about being cited, and she changed it to NO after knowing it was a speeding ticket for $144 from 2008 (my one and only ticket, EVER). She mentioned that putting yes appears in the system as being arrested, and that's why she made the change. Still, if I were you I would still mention it, just in case. One thing I took into enormous consideration was being under oath. For NO reason would I want to lie under oath, so make sure you're 100% truthful. So the way it went is that she proceeded to read ALL of the YES/NO questions, and I would simply say one or the other.

My changes were to a YES/NO question, for which she asked me what actually happened (it was a minor thing, and she also didn't make any changes for that), and then one more trip to add to my travels (I travel a lot!), and a bit more about my weapons training (I was a member of the Armed Forces for 4 years).

That was it! At the end of the interview the officer will show you all the changes made on an electronic pad which he/she will ask you to verify and sign (and that's how I know that she didn't switch to YES the question I answered as a NO, and also she changed to NO the question about being cited).

I'm in Florida!

I did, but the officer told me I didn't have to!

Still, being as paranoid as I am, I am glad I put yes and had the chance to discuss the matter with her. Let THEM make that decision!
