When you get the green card, you need to go to the Social Security Bureau and get an unrestricted card.

Also, i just got off the phone with USCIS and they said that the extension is valid until the date of the extension notice and not the date on the card. If this is correct, you are out of status and need to make an appointment at the local office asap.

So I took an appointment and went after two different agents on the phone told me that the expiration is from the notice date. At the USCIS office, they told me it is from the date on my green card. If the extension is needed, I will need my passport, original green card and extension letter.  They will take the green card and the extension letter and then stamp my passport.

Hello,

My one year extension is expiring in the first week of November so I made an Infopass appointment to get an extension stamp. I received the stamp earlier this week and it is valid for one year. When I handed the officer my paperwork she was gone for about 20 minutes. When she returned with my stamped passport I asked her about my case and she just said it was "pending". She didn't look it up in front of me but I'm assuming she must have during the time she was gone with my paperwork? I hope I'm not being paranoid but does getting a one year extension stamp make your current pending I-751 case get moved to the "bottom of the pile"? I'm concerned that now they won't look at my case until next year when this current extension expires. I'm a VSC filer.

Are you a November Filer? Was the date of your expiration on the green card November?

If not then this was early. And yes, they keep the old green card and the extension letter.

Thank you for your response! I am a November 2016 filer.  My card expired in January 2016 and the extension letter (NOA receipt) was dated November 2016.

I'm not concerned that they kept my green card and letter. I expected that based on what I have read on this forum. I just discovered this forum and it has a wealth of information! Thanks!

What I am wondering about is that does the one year stamp that I got this week now mean that my case won't be reviewed for another year? I was really hoping to get my 10-year green card this month or at least by the end of this year (based on the USCIS timeline) and apply for the citizenship next year.

However I'm worried that since this stamp in my passport just got me another extension, will USCIS now postpone the adjudication of my pending ROC until next year? Basically, did the stamp just add one more year to the ROC process?

No I doubt you are a Vermont filer, if it was California as they way behind right now, I might say yes but Vermont are taking around a year, so you should hear shortly. However, that's subject to change as last year Vermont was behind and California taking around 6 or so months.

Removal of Conditions..  TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK

Time to reset the tick tock clock again.   Roll my eyes.

GC  Conditional date:  05/26/2015

N400.  Application:      02/28/2018

Biometrics:                    02/22/2018

Waiting............    Roll my eyes again :(

No one can tell how they processed the ROC application, some applicants got their approval in less than a year and some were more than a year, the worse is more than 2 years. Each applicant's case is different to it's hard to tell if they will processed/approved your application next month or beyod 12 months and your I-551 is not an indication they will processed your application for another year, its an assurance of your status in case they will take time to process your application.

Let's address a few points here. The officer who handled that is misinformed. If your card expired in January 2016, then you don't have to renew your extension till 30 days before  a year has passed from that date. Meaning you only have to worry about it come December at the earliest.

In regards to the concern that your stamp will expire, based on the current progress, I anticipate that all November filers will have been processed by February 2018 at the latest. If you end up with another year passing, you go and extend it again.

Also, I would consider applying for naturalization come November since you will be eligible for it.

Wow. Well, I filed in November 2016 hoping (at that time) I would be done by around August but now California is taking like forever.

To be more specific, I never ever considered having to do anything else, because I thought this would be done way before the year extension had passed. But it won't be the case, probably. So, to clarify, when is the deadline? Is it an extra year from the expiration date in the Green Card (2/4/17 in my case) or from the NOA letter (Receipt date: 11/08/2016 in my case)?

So, What do I have to do?

Also, to file the paperwork for Naturalization, you do need t get your permanent residency first, right? Even though I have the other requirements, like being married to an American citizen for 3 years, blah blah, I need to get all this done before starting that process, correct?

Thanks

My estimation, based on the current processing time, is that Nov 2016 CSC fillers will start getting results in Feb 2018 through April 2018. Things could change of course.

If you apply for Naturalization, you I-751 application will be placed on hold, but they would still have to process it. From browsing around VJ, it looks like you may end up with one interview for both I-751 and N-400. Personally, as soon as I'm eligible (in 3 weeks), I am going to check if I can apply online for N-400. It seems that the online application take less time to process.
