this is all getting to be very frustrating...

hubby went to see his doctor yesterday to see if she had gotten the results back from the specialist etc...

well, hubby has to set up appointments for 3 different doctors.. is this normal for him to have to set up his own appointments??

he was able to set-up two of them.. one is for the lump in his neck, he needs to see a ears, nose and throat doctor for that, and the other one is a cardiologist, not sure why he has to go see that one...

the 3rd one is where we are having problems, the doctor told him he should go to UCLA for the lung mass thing... well, the thing is she didn't give him a name of a doctor or anything... so hubby calls up UCLA and the receptionist person asks for a name of a doctor and hubby said he didn't know and proceeded to explain and the lady just hung up on him

he told me to try and find him a doctor but I have no idea what kind of doctor he needs, he said he would drop by his doctor's office and find out.... this doctor of his stinks :P

Marilyn-

Sorry to hear about your hubby.Hope it goes smoothly!

well, hubby has to set up appointments for 3 different doctors.. is this normal for him to have to set up his own appointments??

yes. If he needs something for his insurance, like a referral, then get it from the GP.

That is not normal nor professional. He needs to know who/where at UCLA.

Good luck!

this is what I was thinking

i don't much like this doctor of his, he basically chose her because she lived close to where we live :P ... I told him he should try to get a doctor that is affiliated with a hospital you trust but he did his own thing :P

Marilyn

Your husband needs to set up an appointment to see a pulmonologist (lung dr), or if he has already seen one of those and is about to schedule some surgery he will need to see a Thoracic Surgeon.

At least that is the order that my husband saw his dr's before his surgery.

Sorry to hear about the problems your husband has to go through just to get appointments. It does sound like he needs to find a new doctor as they should be helping him set up appointments with the specialists. That's what my doctor's office has always done for the few occassions that I've had to see a specialist.

I hope your husband will finally get all his appointments set up. Both of you are still in our prayers.

Good luck with getting everything sorted out. I do hope that you can find out what is going on soon so you can either stop worrying, or get the necessary medical attention.

Having had a number of medical experiences that have required visits to specialists since arriving in the US 3 years ago, yes, it seems to be very normal for the patient to make his own appointments. The most my GP does is provide me with the name and the contact phone number - after that it is up to me - including asking them if they accept our insurance, and if they don't, then back to the Gp for another name. It is very frustrating.

I will keep you in my prayers.

hubby went to see a cardiologist today and he said that they most he most likely won't need major surgery right now because he isn't having any problems right now, like coughing up blood etc.... He said he would give UCLA a call and see if he can get my hubby a referral  He probably just needs to get the embolization thing done, which is basically an in and out procedure with maybe an overnight stay...

he is wanting hubby to get a Head CT scan because AVM usually occur in the brain and he wants to make sure there isn't one there because that would be more urgent... the doctor's assistant scheduled him one for next week Wednesday...

And he has an appointment with the Ear nose and throat doctor next Thursday.... The doctor today tried to find the lump on hubby's throat but he couldn't feel it... hubby says that it seems to come and go  maybe it is just a thyroid problem or something...

Hey Marilyn,

that sounds like great news. Missed this and found by actually looking for something else. Glad to hear. Still hoping for the best for you.

BTW, I had a cat scan about 5 years ago for major headachs that I would experience when I exerted myself. The doc said that he could not find anything :o:blush::lol:

well, the cardiologist totally came through (every other doctor he has dealt with has been hundred times more helpful then his regular doctor :P) ... He called my hubby yesterday and told him he had talked to a doctor at UCLA and all my hubby had to do was phone them up and register and get an ID number and then call up the doctor at UCLA and set up an appointment... So hubby did that and he has an appointment on June 19th....

well, now my grandma needs prayers and good thoughts sent her way :(....

She had a bad fall a few months back and was in the hospital for awhile but then she was released... But my aunt had to take her back to the hospital because she wasn't doing well.... They found out that one of her kidneys basically hasn't been working for awhile and the other one got damaged from the fall.... She is on dialysis 3 times a week.. my aunt was there for one of the dialysis appointment and she said said my grandma wanted the machine turned off and she was having some pain in her stomach and back. The stomach pain is her gastritis acting up because they reduced her meds and the back hurt because they left her on the one side all day without rotating her.....

her kidney doesn't seem to be kicking in....

My aunt says she is praying to be with my grandpa who died about a year ago... :(

I am not sure what to do.... I would like to go see her but it is really not feasible at this time....

I'll say a prayer for your grandma, Marilyn. ((HUGS))

How old is she? If she is very senior, sometimes we have to try to understand their wishes, ya know? She is praying to be with your garand dad, maybe she just doesn't want to live with the pain anymore and she is lonely without her husband. Sometimes all we can do is pray that they get what they want and let our selfishness go. (not saying you are selfish of course, but you know what I mean...)

Please keep us posted. (L)

ETA: Marilyn, why don't you write her a nice long letter that someone can read to her for you? I think she would love that. :-)
