The cost of immigration is expensive but love knows no bounds. Maybe that would be a gentler way for him to put it.

Some people get into this journey without any idea how truly costly it can be.

The financial hits will keep coming AOS, Bio-metrics, GC, Citizenship etc.

Jim

Looking at the wrong thing....nevermind.

AOS is I-485, correct?

I was looking at the wrong AOS...I-698 fee was bumped up by $650 to $1,670.  Bonkers.  I wonder how that's justified.  These fee raises feel like a money grab.

Question for those of you who were recently approved: If you met online, did you include the terms of service of the website?  I have been reading lately that a lot of people have been getting RFE's and have had to prove that the website was not an International Marriage Broker.  We checked "no" in the box on the form, but we didn't even think about sending in the terms of service.  Did all of you send in evidence that the website was not an IMB?  Trying to be mentally prepared in case we get an RFE.

Congratulations to everyone who was just approved!  It's so fun to watch everyone progressing!!!

We met on tinder and then met that evening to go dancing.  We didn't get an RFE - I'm guessing the officer read that and thought 'well THAT didn't turn out quite as either of them probably planned!'  :D

In response to the person who was asking about NVC processing times:

We were NOA2 on 30th Jan, received our letter on Tuesday of this week (7th).  Aaron called the NVC yesterday evening and they hadn't received our case yet and advised him to call again on Monday - which would be two weeks from approval.

The adjudicators are audited once a month. That is why you sometimes see cases approved and then rejected. Fresher adjudicators (employed under one year) tend to send out more RFE's than the veterans. Audits penalize adjudicators on inaccuracy and doubles (those requiring supervisor approval) so it better to send out an RFE than be penalized. Anyone with a criminal history, multiple k1 petitions, and more than three hits on any of the databases checked require a supervisor and manager approval to approve the case. The workers are graded on how many are worked based on the number of people reviewed so they like working cases with families or kids because they get more points for the day that way and can therefore take their time on some of the harder cases. Stats on all the teams and members are sent out once a week and once a month.

Remember adjudicators only job is to detect fraud. They will and can request any relevant information they feel helps the petition meets the criteria for not being fraudulent. I hope this helps in some way.

Hi Ybhamster, any idea if living in multiple foreign countries causes delays? Me (beneficiary) and my fiance have none of the hits you mention above, but I have lived in 6 different countries during my 28 years of life experience :D wondering if that will reflect negatively on our processing time in the future....

I'd imagine that as long as your police records from those countries say that you're clean, there's nothing that could cause a hit!

True glmg21! I have no problem providing those, but thats in the interview phase, right? People keep talking about "background checks" before getting NOA2, and I'm wondering if it will slow the process of getting approved to have lived in several different countries. Or are they running checks only on petitioner at this stage? :o

Ah yes, that's very true, and yes you're correct that they're for the interview stage. The background checks, AFAIK from reading VisaJourney, is more to see if your name flags up in any criminal databases, either as someone with a conviction or as someone matching a description of a person of interest. The very act of living (legally) in different countries is not a point of contention, and as Ybhamster says, the point of this stage is to assess the validity of the relationship and make sure that no fraud is being committed on the part of the petitioner. I wouldn't worry about it!

Well that's reassuring as me and my fiancée didn't meet on tinder but I did not include terms of service from the site we did meet on. Like it was said before probably depends on who gets your case as to whether or or they will slap you with a RFE for that or not
