@JSWHFor k1 visas, can Canadian choose to schedule an interview date themselves? At the Vancouver consulate?

The only place for interviews in Canada is in Montreal.

Not really, from this post we determinate that files must be in boxes and they just grab box  they think should be the next, some people get approval in a month and some wait for over 4 months. unfortunately that how it works.

I am wondering if we will be a bit delayed because my fiancé taught English in Korea for eight years.  Since he was there for so long, it seems logical that they would want background checks from both Canada and Korea.  Does anyone know?

All cases are treated equally, with the exception being a case that has requested, and been approved for, an expedite by the petitioner.

If it was South Korea it should be no problem

The background checks are pretty much a black box. Some of them (i.e. the FBI) don't disclose what is involved in the process. So, nobody can say for sure what impacts how long they take. That said, I would assume any foreign residency would be checked for red flags (i.e. arrests & nature of the crime, etc.).

I know everything is treated equally.. but what I mean is that.. they literally know everything about me so I was hoping that would have speed up the background check, and possibly process the case faster..I understand though.
