Old Format Ukrainian Birth Certificate

Has anyone from Ukraine had an problems using an old format Ukrainian Birth Certificate for immigration purposes?

An example is attached. Example is one I found as a sample on internet. It is not my spouse's birth certificate.

Why would it be a problem? Is it because of a "born in the USSR" situation?

The problem is the wife talking with her girlfriends. One of them has a friend the emigrated to USA state that the USA did not accept the old style format. Now my wife is trying to get the newer Ukraine Birth Certificate but there are some issues of them getting mother's incorrect surname when files were transferred to Kiev. Was told it will be a long process to get it corrected.

I have not found anything on the internet stating the old format is not acceptable for immigration purposes.

Oh, I see. Huh, I don't know, I read that all birth certs are acceptable. Maybe just keep on with the process of trying to get one in the new format just in case?

Why would the old one be seen as invalid? Sure they must've given a reason for it?

Yeah, hopefully someone else from Ukraine with chime in to verify this or not.

I read people having trouble with being born in different USSR countries from their current citizenship, but that was all...nothing about merely old format versus new format.

It is really required for some countries to get a "new style" birth certificate. My sister lives in UK, and applying for a student visa she had to get her "new" birth certificate. When she got married there and returned to Kiev to apply for a spouse visa, she was warned again about submitting a new format birth certificate.

But to be honest, I've never heard of such requirements for the US.

Your wife, probably, should keep trying to get the "new style" birth certificate. If she has already started. It doesn't hurt or cost too much. The only - she should check if they withdraw her old one. Usually they don't. At least, our "old" birth certificates (my sis's, mine and my son's) weren't taken and now we all are "happy keepers" of both samples

Anyway, if your wife's birth certificate is not issued by her interview date, i do believe she still can attend the interview with her current one. And if the Embassy..well, IF they REALLY need her new one, she will be just asked to submit it when it's ready..

^{I am curious about this as well as my fiancee was born in the Ukraine in 1994 but is a Russian Citizen now. Is that the "old" style certificate? Should I request she get a newer style one? I don't want something like this holding up the process.}

Hi, had no problems using my old birth certificate (same format as you attached), all i did was translating it into English and asking a notary in Ukraine to certify translation. (If you are in the US I am sure you can do the same).

As far as I remember USCIS or US Embassy had no questions regarding it.

P.S. I know in Ukraine you can apply for a new style birth certificate (if I am not mistaken through ZAGS) but as you already said, it's gonna be a while (my friends did it in a month or so).
