Before I went to my first job interview in the US, I checked glassdoor to see what the average salary for my job was in my area. Then I took my work experience into account and gave them a number I felt I deserved, which was $10,000 more than what they were offering. I got the job. :)

Did you negotiate your salary or they just gave you an offer and you said you'd think about it? You need to know the average salary, is it way higher or lower than what they're offering you? What skills and achievements do you have that makes you deserve higher than what the company's offering you? Sell yourself.

Also, you can take the job for a few months, gain valuable US work experience and then move on. That's what I did. I only stayed at my first job for four months and then I got my dream job. You can do that once without it looking bad on the resume.

I had an job interview around 3 weeks ago and completed a brunch of assessment tests and I received an offer today. I am wondering If I should just take it or should wait for another opportunity.

I understand that as a new immigrant, we always start with lower salary but I didnt expect be almost 60% lower than what I used to earn. Can anyone share your view with me if you were me.

what is your skill set ? nice question to ask through the web btw.

If a company is offering you a wage that is way below the industry standard, then it may be of your best interest to look for other offers. Usually when hiring, a company only has so much wiggle room for increasing your base pay. So even if you renegotiate, and they offer a 10 to 20 percent increase of what they are offering, that is still a major cut from what you feel your worth is.

It's always easier to find a job when you already have a job, but it's really difficult to look for work when you just start a new job. So if you do want to accept the position, give it 1 year, go through first year employee evaluation period, and then move on.
