Certified Marriage Certificate?

A quick question, the marriage certificate that has to be included in the AOS paperwork. It says it must be certified.

Does that me an original or a photocopy of the original or a photocopy that has been notarized?

Sorry for the question, just wasn't sure what certified meant.

They just need a certified copy.... not an original.

A certified marriage certificate is what you get from the County Clerk's office(or whichever gov't agency issues them in your area). You only need to send in a photocopy of the certified marriage certificate, not the original.

It does not need to be notarized.

I sent a photocopy of the certificate from the county clerk office. No problems here!

Just send a photo copy, same with financial data attached to the I-864.

USCIS no longer routinely requires submission of original documents or "certified copies." Instead, ordinary legible photocopies of such documents (including naturalization certificates and alien registration cards) will be acceptable for initial filing and approval of petitions and applications.

At the discretion of the officer, original documents may still be required in individual cases. Please be advised that USCIS no longer returns original documents submitted with the exception of Certificates of Naturalization, Forms I-551, Permanent Resident Card, Forms I-94, Arrival/Departure Document, valid passports, or those specifically requested by the officer. Such documents will be returned when they are no longer needed.
