No luck today either. Apparently my name wasn't entered correctly at the POE so now I have three (!) first names instead of one first name and two middle names. Is it possible to live and work in the US without a SSN?

They wouldn't do it anyway?

They did kind of the same thing with mine.

First: Blue

Middle: Red

Last: Black

In their system my name is: First: BlueRed Last: Black

He said it was fine and would be corrected in the USCIS system and then after that in there when I would come back and get it changed to my new name and it did.

No she said they have to do it exactly the way it looks in the immgrant database, meaning I'd have to live with three first names and use them for everything. I will have to get an infopass at a local USCIS office to get it corrected, but they never have any available appointment so there's no way to get it corrected.

I'm still wondering if it's possible to get by in the US without a SSN? I don't need it for getting married or getting in on my fiancés bank account at least.

Okay guess it's just different from place to place. I have had no issues at all.

Yeah you can wait to get it if you want. But if you need to be added to your husbands medical they most likely want the SSN number.

I have not used mine for anything other then that so far and we also have all our bank accounts jointly.

How did your names get corrected btw if you didn't go to an infopass to have it done?

Okay, thanks for helping! :) I think I'll just not bother with the SSN, it seems very difficult to get it right and I don't even think I need a SSN either way. Hopefully I won't be the only American resident without a SSN. :D

You'll need your SSN when you get a job, when filing taxes, when (eventually, maybe) getting Social security benefits... So you'll need it eventually. You can probably wait until marriage/EAD since you won't be able to work before that anyway. You could probably be added to your husband's account but if you add your SSN you will be able to build credit history and have an easier time applying for credit cards/loans/mortgage.

You get that on your card no matter what when applying before GC.

I know, just saying she can check the valid for work box because it'll be on your SSN card

Scandi, you can e-mail CBP or call to get your I-94 corrected. I e-mailed dtwi94corrections@cbp.dhs.gov because I couldn't find myself when entering my information and within a week it was updated and corrected.

Mine was normal on my I-94 ... they said it something about the way Scandinavians name is entered there is different.

it is impossible to not have one you need it for everything.

I would try getting 194 fixed or try once you get your green card.

No she does not at this point.

She is not talking about forever just until she gets her EAD/GC so it'll be fixed in the system and then she will apply for it again.

I will most likely have to get a SSN at one point, yes. But for now this just seems like one big mess. Truns out one of my middle names is also not the full name, instead of "Theres" it says "The" - most likely they couldn't fit three(!) first names in the box, so one was cut off.
