B1/B2 Tourist Visa for Senior Citizen Parent

Hi Everyone,

I am a permanent resident here in the US and would like to get my mom for a short holiday visit in December. She is 68 years old and knows little english. She does not have much and I have been supporting her since she retired.

Any tips on how i would go about in doing this? Would it be helpful if i ask a travel agency to help my mother?

I have seen more of the elders that apply for a tourist visa to visit family having better odds for of getting approved... still no guarantees.

Your mother will have to prove to the satisfaction of the US consular official at the interviewing US embassy/consulate, that she has significant ties to the Phils. such that she would return to the Phils. after her US visit is completed. Such ties could include, property, house ownership, current stable employment, etc. Each visitor visa applicant is presumed to have immigration intent, and must prove that they are not trying to immigrate to the US. A letter from a doctor, any documents from you, or any other invitation-type letter would likely have no positive effect on the visitor visa approval. You could try a travel agency, unsure if it would make any difference.

This Singapore link might be more up OP's alley if the mother is in Singapore. The mother has to convince the CO she intends to visit and then return home. OP can provide financial support.

Getting a tourist visa from the Philippines is not as easy as acquiring from other countries, plus the process is different as payment has to be made to BPI bank, etc, etc ... only related to the Philippines. Thanks

Getting a tourist visa from the Philippines is not as easy as acquiring from other countries, plus the process is different as payment has to be made to BPI bank, etc, etc ... only related to the Philippines. Thanks

Good points, though it isn't a walk in the park in many countries, due to the fact that, each visitor visa applicant is presumed to have immigration intent, and must prove that they are not trying to immigrate to the US, and that is not country-specific.

I was in Singapore working while processing our papers but it was at USEM where we had our interview. Profile edited and put in the correct info

As mentioned, she needs to prove ties on her own. She can try to apply but for me, the chance to get approved is very slim.

My x mother in law was a retired teacher and owns properties in the Philippines. All her children and grandchildren are her in the US and some of which she haven't seen since birth. She is 70 years old and living on her won. She have previous travels to Canada and other Asian countries. In the past 2 years she has been trying to visit her children and grandkids - she was denied 3 times.

Proving ties and compelling reasons to come back is very difficult at their stage in life. Going thru a travel agency will not help. When you get naturalized then you can petition her.
