Opening Bank Account Without SSN

Hi,

My wife (LPR) and me (intending immigrant, not resident in USA) would like to open a joint bank account in Nevada. I know that banks like Capital One allow non residents to have accounts, however, all banks we emailed in Nevada refused. Some said you need to call, but we are not sure anything will lead to acceptance. Can anyone recommend a bank with branch in Nevada that would issue saving accounts to us?

Did you tried Wells Fargo? I just had to show them my ID and Passport and they added me to my husbands account (and that without SSN).

All Banks can open an account for a person without a social. Good Luck.

Before my hubby immigrated, one local bank I had would not add him to my account unless he was there in person, but I had no problem adding him to my Chase account and Chase credit card. You will note that the accounts were open in my name and I was adding hubby's name to make it a joint account. Does your LPR wife have a SS card? If so, have her open the account and add you if they won't accept any other way.

Oh, we emailed about 30, and 25 most definitely told us that they will not open a bank account for a non-resident without SSN. About 5 said, they cant give answers by email and we must visit personally a local branch, but this was an automated email, so not really relevant to our case in particular.

Wells Frago was one of the 5 banks that did not allow email communication, so they are on the list for the personal visit.

Just go inside one of the banks and inquire. Do you have any Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Capital One bank, TD, and Citi banks near by?

I used to have a bank account with Bank of America when I was with a B1 visa in the US. Never had or needed a SSN.

After my husband and I were married we went down to the bank to add him to my account and they really seemed as though they didn't want to, it was so bizarre, what does it matter to them? He was completely legal to be here, we had our marriage license, his passport with valid 94. The same thing happened when we went to get him a state ID card. I hope there is an option that you can find.

Bank of America can open both Checking and Savings account without SSN. I opened my with my B1/B2 visa without SSN..

That is possible when you go in person. I believe the online process requires SSN.

So I assume OP was trying to do this online.
