Interview for Unofficial Language

Hi everyone,

I've tried calling the US embassy in Port au Prince, but they don't know the answer to my question. I have a fiancee who is a Haitian citizen, but grew up in the Dominican Republic. So, the problem is that she never learned Creole, French, or English. She only speaks Spanish. My guess is that the US embassy in Haiti does not provide Spanish translators. I speak Spanish and Creole, but I don't think I'll be allowed to translate for her. So, does anyone know if you are allowed to bring in a friend to translate at the final interview? Thanks!

Not sure if it's the same but my experience with the USA embassy in dr

They only allowed me and my husband in the embassy because he had the appointment and I was the American. The co basically interviewed me in English and only asked my husband his name in Spanish.

Did your fiancé have a visa while in dr going to school/growing up ?? Maybe she can show that to explain why she only speaks Spanish and they'll allow you to translate for her. I just know the embassy in dr is strict with who they allow in

I love my husband ?‍?‍?

Ahhhh man that might be tough. Have you looked on the USA embassy in Haiti website to see if you can request a interpreter?? I also found the people that answered the phones not to be very knowledgeable at times

I know often times they won't let the fiancé(e) participate in interviews. How expensive might be a lawyer in Haiti who knows Spanish? That might be an option, although you'd need to check with them to see that they were allowed to attend.

During our CR1 interview in Stockholm, a Spanish speaking person was there trying to get a student visa, but they were basically unable to help him and didn't seem to have any procedures in place like an interpreter line or something. The embassy staff spoke several other languages and tried asking about those, but no fit either. I'm actually a little surprised that they don't have a phone line they can call like hospitals do.

Another thought might be tweeting them and asking. Sometimes you can get a good response that way.
