TV Show- 90 day Fiance - how do they get away with it?

No. People are stupid. A person can be smart, but people are getting dumber by the day, I swear. Common sense is the least common thing in the world. My MIL recently asked me to take down a post on facebook because some lady posted her phone number on a post I was tagged in. Do you not understand that other people can see your phone number and full name? Yeesh! Apparently it would cause drama with the DIL. Her husband is deployed on the USS Mason. She has 3 kids all of whom have developmental issues. And my comment letting someone know about their information being portrayed to the world will cause drama? I don't have time for that.

Hm. Globally people are now more educated than ever before in history, so I am not exactly sure how you are quantifying "getting dumber by the day" but I guess everyone has their own way of looking at things.

Maybe it depends on the people you are surrounded by I suppose. I'm sorry to hear about your issues with your mother and law though.

Book smart and common sense smart are two very different things. I work in retail. Trust me. People are NOT getting smarter. More educated, but not smarter. But that's probably just the USA. I do not recall it being this bad in Canada.

Case in point... Mother in law, not mother and law. ;)

I'm teasing FYI. LOL

Apologize for the typo.

People are not getting dumber.

Common sense is about as widely distributed as it has always been.

There is nothing wrong with the next generation --> people optimize in the environment in which they live.

The only anomaly in the age old truths is the fairy tale existence the USA has enjoyed since World War II - now slowly coming to an end.

It's all personal opinion and experience on intelligence and common sense anyhow. I agree with M&M to disagree. I do wish I could spend more time with a greater number of intelligent people, but I chose my job based on my availability. So I deal with general public, such is life. :) At least I can choose my friends. :D

Yes there is something wrong with the next generation. The issue, however, is by our generation who do not teach them how to take care of themselves or just dont pay them enough attention period.

Anyhow off topic.

It used to be. My father and mother moved back to America, got married and went to the immigration office right after and it was all Kosher. That was the 80s, though.

Yes, the couple next to me on the plane were making reference to soldiers who brought home brides from Europe and the Far East after the Second World War. Like many people who don't have to deal with immigration, they think things are still like that.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

American TV show apps don't work outside the US. They block certain countries by IP, Russia being a popular block.

I just feel like reality TV should die already. It's been almost 20 years......I thought trends/fads were supposed to die? Sigh.

Back to immigration laws, you know in some countries it is still relatively easy when it comes to visas through marriage. A country where it is disturbingly easy is Japan. You can just enter on a tourist visa, and switch to a marriage visa within a matter of three months, very few documents are needed and the whole thing goes insanely fast. Very little evidence of relationship is required, etc. Every country has their own way of doing things....I suppose the US just became harder because of 9/11 and other events which have lead to beefed up security.

I watched bits of the second series and often wondered how Mohammed got his K1 and what evidence was used to prove his and Danielle's bona fide relationship, especially with him coming from Tunisia.

I'm from the UK, hubby is from Michigan and is a retired US Army LTC.   We are currently stationed overseas.

Here is our immigration journey so far....

10.26.13 - Our wedding in Scotland

11.26.14 - Filed I-130 at US Consulate, Frankfurt (DCF)

11.18.14 - Returned to Scotland to renew our vows for our first wedding anniversary

01.08.15 - NOA2 received in snail mail, together with case number and Packet 3 instructions

02.15.15 - Submitted Packet 3

02.17.15 - Packet 4 received by email with instructions to schedule medical and interview

02.18.15 - Email authorisation received from Consulate to gain access to appointment calendar

03.03.15 - Medical

03.18.15 - Interview - Approved

03.21.15 - Visa in hand

06.10.15 - POE Chicago (final destination Detroit)

07.20.15 - Received SSN in mail

07.27.15 - Received 2 year green card in mail

The journey to ROC starts here...!

10.05.15 - Returned to Germany on government orders

05.25.17 - Mailed ROC package to California Service Centre

06.14.17 - Received NOA 1 (dated 05.30.17) in mail

09.05.18 - Received a second NOA (dated 08.11.18) in mail granting a further six months extension to green card due to 'processing delays'

11.26.18 - ROC - Approved

12.05.18 - Approval Notice I-797 received in mail

12.18.18 - 10 year green card received in mail

The journey to citizenship starts here...!

I haven't watched 90 Day Fiance yet. I hadn't even heard of it until a friend who heard I was going through the K1 process suggested I contact the show and see if I could be on it. The editing and overall presentation of American reality TV makes me cringe. Contrived, melodramatic, sensationalism. And with so many who say they hate it also makes me wonder who is watching it!

Anyway, just the title alone made the show sound as if my fiance and I have nothing in common with what it could be about. What, you meet someone, are engaged for 90 days, and then you decide if you want to marry them? Isn't that like the Bachelor or the Bachelorette? How is that similar to the immigration process we're going through? Then after hearing about the show here on VJ, I realized that it IS about the K1 process. And much like the OP, I'm wondering how they get away with it.

I came across a show on Netflix the other night called "Border Security", which I nearly dismissed until I realized it wasn't about just one border, it was about lots of different POEs in the US. I decided to give it a shot and see what it was like. Typical American reality tv show. I only watched the first episode, and even that one I found myself skipping ahead to follow the one story of the guy being questioned about his intentions for coming into the US on a visitor's visa. Even though the process may hold some truth to it, it was overly dramatic, edited to seem much more sinister than it actually was. And the guy was sent home in then end, back to Europe, after they found evidence he was planning to work while in the US.

As for 90 Day Fiance, I am curious, but I wonder if it's even worth the effort. We're 3-1/2 weeks away from the interview for our K1. I'll just focus on the REAL reality for now. haha

I had a similar experience on the flight home after we got married. I had to leave three days after we got married to return to work and I was crying on the plane. Not dramatically. Just quietly to myself. The couple next to me asked if there was anything they could do to help ( they thought I was a nervous flyer) and I told them I had just got married on Saturday and had to leave my husband behind. They said "no, that's not true. You're married to an American. Just go to the office and get your passport stamped." If only it were that easy.

Curious as to which foreignor has been caught cheating before they got married? I watch it here but I don't remember seeing one of them openly cheating. Mohammad left Danielle and cheated but that was after his AOS.

This season Nicole cheated on Azan, and allegedly Danielle has also cheated on Mohammad in addition to his infidelity.
