Documents needed at Customs during awaiting arrival of 10 year green card

Hello Visa Journey,

I am in need of your much appreciated help!

My 2 year conditional green card expires soon, and I will be sending of the application to remove conditions within the 3 month period in a couple of weeks.

Question - I am travelling outside of the USA during this 3 month period, what documents will I need to get back into the country without any issues?

I have been told a number of things, that I will receive a NOA1 letter and that serves as my temporary extension to my green card until it gets accepted. OR, that I will have to go to the immigration office and get my passport / green card stamped.

Will I need my greencard when coming back in the country? Or will the NOA1 letter and my passport (which has my visa + immigration stamp) to be allowed back in?

I'm looking for people who have gone through this process so that I can travel with ease / dont get denied entry back in the country!!

Thank you for your response Harpa, do you know if the visa in the passport (with immigration stamp) will suffice along with NOA1?

I have misplaced my greencard.. horrifying I know and therefore am trying to find out if I need to get a new once sent to me or not before traveling. It seems ludicrous of course as it will no longer be usable.

The visa is expired. With the stamp it served as a GC for one year but that time has passed.

Do you have a front and back copy of the GC? Because you will need that for ROC.

If you do have that but lost the card you might be able to get a I-551 stamp in your passport which works like a Greencard. But you also might just have to replace the card.

Luckily I do have my front and back scan's on the greencard for ROC.

The visa on the passport is for 1 year, however the stamp on my passport says February 2017 (Which is when my greencard expires)

Is that the I-551 stamp you mentioned, or is that something I have to do seperately?

Is it costly / lenghty to get a replacement card?

Google I-551stamp and see if it's the same, but I bet you just have an admission stamp. To get I-551 stamp you need to make infopass. I might try after the GC is expired if you don't need to go anywhere till then. Getting a new GC does cost; the form is I-90. Not sure the cost off the top of my head.

The others answered your questions, but I just wanted to point out that you remove conditions within 90 days of your green card expiring not 3 months.

You will need to file I-90 (fees $365 + $85 biometric) to replace your lost GC.

Make sure you're in the US to receive your biometrics appointment letter and to attend the appointment. This could take place around a month or so from when they receive your I-751 package.
