Couple questions...leaving USA w/ wife for first time

Hello all! Other than stopping by occasionally to offer advice on forms, i haven't been around much the last 2 years because my wife got her GC and we haven't had any problems.

Anyway, my wife took my last name, and we knew enough to buy our plane tix in her maiden name to match her Colombian passport. We are traveling to Colombia to visit her family. So the big question is what happens in colombia when we leave to come back to the US? I mean, as i said the names on her GC and passport don't match. Do they need to fingerprint her or something to verify she is the rightful GC holder?

Also one other thing....and we were assured by USCIS that this wouldn't be an issue....but when we did the removal of conditions process they misspelled her middle name. So at the bio appointment we told them they made a mistake, and they said they would correct it and when the GC arrived it would have the correction. Well, it didn't. The only place the name appears is on the back of the card in the lines of code at the bottom. Her middle name is Salcedo and they put Salledo (which isn't even a name in spanish). So we scheduled another appt, and they told us it was just a typo during the ROC process, but her name was correct in the main system. We were told we didn't have to worry about it. I guess if we wanted it corrected we would've had to send the card back and wait up to 6 months.

Does anyone foresee how this could be a problem?

Thank you!

As is often mentioned at this forum, have the planes tickets purchased in the same name as in the traveler's passport. The Green Card is in traveler's new married name. Take a copy of your marriage certificate, that will show the name change.

Good luck on your trip.

Leaving Colombia should not be an issue as she will check in at the airport with her Colombian passport and tickets in her maiden name. If they ask during check-in what is your authorization to enter the US, then show the GC and explain she is your wife. They may ask to see the marriage certificate at that point, but after that it should be clear sailing until you get to the POE. My wife has traveled several times to Russia and back using the same method and so far no one has asked to see her marriage certificate, but that was when coming home through China. They did ask for the GC and no one had an issue with the name difference. So far it has been clear sailing at the POE (each time Detroit).

Good Luck!
