We are at the stage now where the nvc has forwarded our k1 petition to the London embassy, but unfortunatly my fiance has got cold feet and decided that moving to the USA is not for her and broke off the engagement. My question is do we need to let anybody know? or do we just let it play its course and decline to go to the interview? Thanks in advance

I'm sorry you're going through this. As someone married to a Brit, I understand how tough the decision to move is. In fact, it took my husband 7 years to feel ready. In some ways, it may be harder to make the decision to move from the UK or Western Europe than other places in the world. Those countries provide a great quality of life and they know moving to America isn't a picture perfect dream.

I hope you have the opportunity to talk with your fiancée. Find out what her fears are and see what you can do to help her overcome them.

Follow LionessDeon's advice if/when you decide it's not going to work out.

I also agree with the others. Ask the embassy to extend the time needed to interview (this should be done automatically, but just in case). I think you can extend that time for up to a year. Hopefully she'll come around. I think nearly everyone who is engaged gets cold feet to some degree, and after another visit or some time (or heck, after this election!!), she'll feel confident in moving here.

Good luck to both of you!

Sorry englishjim that this occurred. Such a huge life change certainly gives someone the right to weigh out the pros and cons, so it is understandable that your fiancé could get cold feet...but still, it undoubtedly must be a disappointment to you. I agree with the others, give this time and see if she will come around after some thought and more time to process what she is gaining/losing by staying or going.

I have known British friends here stateside, and many have said that language is really the only thing that we culturally share between UK and US. It's a shock.

Not to make light of it, but I guess your fiancee decided not to Brexit.

I think the most important factor is whether or not she wants to live with YOU, not if she wants to move to the US, etc. I can't imagine she would break the engagement just because of relocation difficulties. But that of course is up to you to pursue.
