IR-1 / CR-1 Visa Denial Rate

Is that a 99% approval rate for the petition (USCIS)? Or 99% approval rate for the visa application (Embassy)?

Getting a petition approved isn't really that difficult as long as meet all the requirements. Follow the guides.

I think they talk about Department of State, and Visa's issued in most statistics.

A rate like this isn't a useful metric because every case is judged on its own merits. If one year the denial rate goes up or down it only has to do with the cases that are presented.

If you are a real couple, if you are not otherwise barred from the US (for crimes or drug use or communicable disease), and if you can do all the forms the right way (have a suitable sponsor, etc), you will not be denied.

The surprise denials that you hear of most often are for suspicions of romance/ immigration fraud, where one person pretends to be in a relationship to get to the US.

So the answer to your question is if a person has all those the things you mention the approval rate is 100%.

Are you sure? Isn't there the factor of the personal interpretation of the CO? I read quite a few heartbreaking reports here, especially from Ghana or Morocco, where legit couples were refused the visa simply based on the opinion of the CO, while they obviously have not made any major mistake or had other major issues.

The denial rates are higher in countries like Ghana and Morocco. You might've read about K-1 denials as well, which tend to be denied at a higher rate than CR-1/IR-1 cases (if I'm not mistaken.)

I definitely think CO's can make mistakes. The reality is, though, if they do....you still can't do anything about it. You'd have to follow the protocol exactly the way any other denied couple would. Yes, it's unfair but some people just end up unlucky that way. If the relationship is real, the couple will get through it.

Also, don't forget we only have the couple's side of the story here. And they may be omitting pertinent facts. I'm not suggesting that everyone here who reports a denial has lied to us about the reason for the denial but there are probably cases where there were red flags to the CO, things that didn't even seem significant to the couple, that caused the denial. And there could be people here hiding things that they hope won't get noticed but the diligent CO has uncovered those things.

That said, there are indeed heartbreaking stories from certain embassies where the denial rate is noticeably higher than others.

Hello my lovely people, I just want to ask a question because I'm so nervous about my CR1 interview coming up soon, my wife is so anxious to have me over there in US, I have all the requested documents but I saw online that my country(Nigeria) is one of the countries that has record of high marriage fraud. I have a genuine relationship with my wife, she loves me as much as I love her and I'm so nervous about everything. Is there anything could do to be well prepared for the interview.???
