Has anyone on here gotten their green card and decide to pursue their degree?

I was going to get my degree in England and then moved to Indiana, I looked online to start my degree and I'm being told I'm going to get incredibly limited federal aid. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Each school is different. My husband was able to attend school and he was able to get a generous amount of financial aid even though he had a green card. He wasn't considered an out of state student at the school he went to.

Financial aid is based on the income of the student and spouse. This may be the reason you are not being offered much money. The school will help determine how much money you will get. Look at several different schools if possible and talk to their financial aid office.

You still qualify for federal aid when you have a green card. I applied for federal aid when I got my green card and had qualified but then I joined the military so i didn't pursue it further as we get tuition assistance from the military. You are still charged international rate in most states if you haven't resided in that state for a year. So remember to check that too.

Some colleges in certain circumstance will let you change your status from non resident to resident, reducing your tuition. Out of state and international tuition is much more expensive.

A school I was looking at automatically gave you residence status if you married a resident from the state the school is located.
