I received my I-797 and it shows that it is valid from 8/31/2016 to 12/30/2016. I have since contacted the Montreal consulate, completed packet 3, received packet 4 and I am now looking at dates to book my interview. Do the dates on the I-797 have any relation to when I need to do my interview. I am asking because I am not sure I will be able to schedule an interview between now and 12/30/2016 due to my work and would prefer to do it in January.

Does anyone have experience with this in a similar situation?

It is not uncommon for COs at the interviewing embassy/consulate to extend the validity date of the approved visa petition in order to finish processing the petition. Check out the DOS FAQs for that and more info.

You need to have an interview booked by the end of the validity date. The interview date doesnt need to be by then, just booked by then. Clear as mud?

Thank you so much! Is there anywhere I can find this online or do you just know from experience?

It helps so much really because going in January won't be a problem but December would be really hard to swing if I wanted to keep my job haha!

from experience. I left my job before the interview. At the time though visas were returned quickly.

Thank you. Unfortunately I did not find anything on the website that helped on this topic specifically.
