Traveling on VWP after K-1 visa is approved/need to visit fiance before the final move

I have travel booked to visit my fiance in US in Dec (for Christmas & NYE) and then again in February for Valtines day. Our visa petition was approved very quickly and now I need to gather all docs and schedule the interview appointment. Our petition approval expires end of Jan.

I dont want to miss on visiting my fiance both times so I am planning to schedule my interview in the beginning of January.

My question is: if my K1 is approved in January, can I travel to US in Feb on my VWP then come back, organise the move/give notice at work etc. and enter US under K-1?

No they will use your K-1 visa. You can try and say it's only a VWP visit but I wouldn't count on that at all.

So do your visit before the interview.

No, once the K1 is issued, your next visit in to the US will be using the K1

If you want to postpone your move, consider scheduling your interview after both of your trips

You can try to postpone your interview and the consulate will automatically extend the validity of the petition as long as you are in contact with them.
