Question about POE and visa expiration dates:

My fiance and I are hoping to have a POE date of June 1st (ish). The process is going pretty fast compared to what I was reading while putting the packet together. (We have a couple of international trips planned and our wedding date is June 24th)

From what I read, I thought the visa expired 6 months after it was issued (around the time of the interview). I was reading on another thread that the Visa expires 6 months after the medical appointment.

Does anyone here know the details on when/how the visa expires specifically (so we can strategize our timeline). We want to try to make June timeline work, if possible :) . Thanks in advance! :)

First let me recite the golden rule of VJ:

Do not make any definite plans, i.e., wedding dates, deposits, or airline tickets, etc etc until visa is in hand.

So having a wedding date set is a concern to me. Anything could happen between now and then.

Ok so I just looked at my husbands K1 visa. His medical was on 03/16/16. He turned results end of march.

His interview was 06/28/16.

The expiration date on his visa is 12/27/16.

Kingston Embassy.

My fiance now lives and is from Australia. He lived in the US for 6 years which is where we met.

How do I change my profile, I thought it was already in there?

I know we are taking a risk with setting a wedding date but we are both okay with it. We are keeping it small and intimate, my mom is excited about having something to plan and talk about (I was okay with eloping) :)

Its on your timeline but not your profile. Click on your picture/profile and go to "edit".

Are you paying deposits? Yea that's a risk alright. Not sure how the international trips will work either. I tend to take one step at a time and nothing went before the visa in hand. That was the focus then we went from there. To each his own. Good Luck

Travelling to and from Australia is relatively simple because of a treaty that was put in place after WW2. You have a three month visitor visa that you can use as you please as long as you don't abuse the system but there are no strict rules about how many times you can enter the country as long as you don't stay for more than 3 months at a time and same goes in the reverse for the US. There has not been any issues since we have been travelling (other than I forget my middle name on my visa once). I am not going to stress out about it too much.

Your visitors visa becomes invalid once K1 is issued.

2nd the k1 is invalid for additional entries as soon as you enter the USA. (one entry visa)

So if you enter in June and marry do not go on a honeymoon out of USA.

Nothing else matters to officers at POE you will be locked out having to file for a CR1 if you leave prior to AOS.

Great thanks. We realize once he gets the visa we need to enter the country under K1 visa and he can't leave the country until we get the temporary green card. We just want to make sure we plan the 6 months before expiration of the visa accordingly if possible. Thanks for the information!
