Hello,

It's been awhile since we did the I-130 for my spouse, and we're about to do it for spouse's mother. Just wondering:

Do documents (in this case the birth certificate of my spouse) need to have an apostille seal? Also, is it still okay for me to translate documents and sign competency, etc., instead of paying someone to do it? The first time we did the I-130 we got apostille seals and I did the translations myself, just wanted to double check if that was necessary this time around. As always, any help is appreciated. Good luck to everyone.

If the original birth certificate itself has a seal stamp, it should be enough if it is being sent to USCIS.

As far as I am aware, petitioner or beneficiary can not translate it, but anyone else who is fluent in english and the native language can translate.

- However I would still consider hiring a certified translator, because the translation has specific rules and needs to be accurate.
