Hi there,

It's my first post! I have been lurking on this community for awhile and am really feeling anxious so decided to post.

My situation: Bringing my same-sex fiance from Panama to the US hopefully next year. We've been together for nearly 2 years and met in Panama while I was living there. I've been gainfully employed as a Director at a non-profit for the last 5 years. I was stationed in Panama for two years and in May, I was told my office was closing in the first week of September. We applied in August for our fiance visa. I was extremely burnt out and was offered a job from the same non-profit. Here's the kicker: it's an experiential position, where I travel abroad at each of our program sites. All of my living accommodations, flights and meals are covered, as well as insurance. I'm still gainfully employed but am making a stipend of $1,000 dollars a month to cover other personal costs. Currently stationed in Tanzania and then heading to India, the whole gig was a contract of 6-9 months, up to me.

When I took the role, I assumed that our visa would take at least 5-6 months, so I could head out for awhile. At the time I departed, I had two other job opportunities which seemed promising but weren't immediate. I figured I would travel abroad, have some fun and wait out those other jobs to come down the pipeline. I'm still waiting for the possibility of one (they are waiting for an anticipated influx of business), but it seems a big vague now.

The problem is that we received our acceptance of our application REALLY FAST, in less than two months. She is likely going to be scheduled for an interview within the next month or two.

I'm now freaking out about the affidavit of support. I don't have anyone to co-sponsor (my mom is elderly, my brother is on disability from the government and I wouldn't want to ask a friend). I have about 45-50k in cash and assets, but technically only make 12k per year on paper with my current stipend.

I am technically still gainfully employed and have W-2's showing well over the poverty line for the last 4 years and 2016's will also be strong. I have a letter from my employer stating my previous salary dating August 29th. The question on the form seems to be what is your derived income for this year, technically thats about 57-60k since my salary was reduced for four months at the end.

I would hate to have to leave my post abroad on the chance that my assets and my salary was not sufficient.

Questions: Do I have enough assets to balance this out? Should I answer that my salary for this year is 12k or 70k or something in between, considering this end of the year job change? Is a letter from my employer dated from a month or two not acceptable? I don't want to do anything illegal, but I also know this is a truly weird situation.

Thank you for reading this rant

Current income counts, I would get a joint sponsor lined up.

The amount is calculated by your taxes. I used assets only and they used 1/5 of cash value to add on top of the taxable income....We filed CR-1 and I am not sure if the rules are the same for K-1 applicant
