Advice for Sister trying to visit from the Philippines?

Hello,

Currently we are trying to bring my Sister-in- Law over to visit my wife while I am on a deployment so she can help my wife out with our kids and spend time together. I know she has to have strong ties to show she will be going back to the Philippines, so she has a job at a bank as a financial advisor , she lives with her parents, and helps raise her nephews and nieces. I am not sure if that is enough to tie her back. I was going to give an affidavit of support as well. Would it help if I wrote a letter saying I intend to support her during her stay, as well explain that it will be a big help during my deployment?

Any advice or experiences is very appreciated !

If she is single and young, under 30, the chances are slim. It's cheap to try, but expect to get turned down.

You writing a letter would probably hurt her chances. She needs to show that she can pay for her own tri and be able to support herself.

Your sister-in-law will have to prove to the satisfaction of the US consular official at the interviewing US embassy/consulate, that she has significant ties to the Phils. such that she would return to the Phils. after her US visit is completed. Such ties could include, property, house ownership, current stable employment, etc. Each visitor visa applicant is presumed to have immigration intent, and must prove that they are not trying to immigrate to the US. A letter from a doctor, any documents from you, or any other invitation-type letter would likely have no positive effect on the visitor visa approval. A visitor visa is just that a visitor or tourist visa. Visitors/tourists are not allowed to work, so any mention of "helping out" could be problematic for a visitor visa approval.

Tourist visa is for tourism purposes only. That's the only reason she must present to the interviewing consul. No more no less. She will be approved or denied based on HER ties to the Philippines. You don't have to provide anything.

A lot of people on here post about tourist visas. Nobody on the forum that I know is a CO so we can't really say. If it seems worth the risk to her, she can apply and chance the $160 USD and see what happens. Maybe she'll be extremely lucky and get a visitor visa, but the chances for people with ties to/family in the US who aren't extremely established in their own country (stable and successful career, married, have kids, etc) is always low.

If she does get rejected, there will be utterly no point in re-applying for a visitor visa unless something significant in her situation changes (more stable job, gets married, etc.) Best of luck.
