I'm sooooo sorry ladies, but yesterday I received the new pamphlet for the return policy changes starting this year. And it's NOT pretty. I thought I'd give you ALL a heads up in case you have anything that needs returning before this new policy goes into place. The old policy is bad, yes, but the new one is worse. Allow me to explain:

As it sits right now:

Normal Merchandise:

With a receipt dated within 90 days, you're golden. If you have a receipt or gift receipt, these changes won't affect you.

Without a receipt- You have 2 no receipt exchanges each year, starting from the date you used your first one. IE: if you use a no receipt exchange on March 31st, 2007 and another on December 10th, 2007, you can't use another no receipt exchange until March 31st, 2008.

Without a receipt - If you have x number of items that, when totalled together equal less than $100, you can put them all on ONE no receipt exchange transaction, given you haven't already used your two alloted for the year.

Without a receipt - You can not go more than $100 for a no receipt exchange.

Without a receipt - If the item you are bringing back is no longer in the system, you may not exchange it, no matter what.

Without a receipt - Store credit may be given if item(s) total less than $10.

Without a receipt - If you remember mode of payment (credit card, check, debit card), and it's been purchased in the last 90 days, we can look it up via the card/check and you don't use up one of your no receipt exchanges.

Without a receipt - Exchanges can only be made for the lowest sale price the item has been in the last 90 days. So if that cute outfit was on sale last week for $3.50, and you paid $15.00, sorry, you can only exchange for $3.50.

Receipt that is expired - DOES NOT COUNT AS A RECEIPT!! Once that expiration date on the top of the receipt has passed, it's as if you don't have one, because the computers dump the information held on any receipt after the expiration date, and thus, we can't use the information held on it because the information, doesn't exist.

Merchandise off a Registry:

If you were not given a gift receipt for your item, but it was taken off your Wedd/Baby registry, you can log into your registry on one of the kiosks in the store, print out your "Gift Purchase Log", and use THAT as a gift receipt as long as it was taken off.

If you were not given a gift receipt, and it was not something you registered for/they didn't bother to get it taken off your registry, you have to follow normal 'no receipt' protocol.

NOW HERE IS THE BIG IMPORTANT PART!!

Beginning THIS SUNDAY - 4-1-07:

Normal Merchandise:

With a receipt - You are still golden! As long as it was dated within 90 days and has not expired (in which, like before, the receipt is useless), you're fine

Without a receipt (but can be looked up via credit card, debit card, or check) - As long as it was purchased in the last 90 days and you have the correct card/check with you, you're also fine.

Without a receipt - You have 2 no receipt ITEMS per year, still starting from the first transaction you use.

Without a receipt - The ITEM you use for a no receipt exchange can not exceed $40! And you may only return 2 no receipt ITEMS. FOR INSTANCE!!! IF YOU BUY 6 HAND TOWELS, AND DECIDE AGAINST THEM OR WHATEVER, YOU MAY ONLY RETURN 2 OF THEM AND THAT COUNTS AS YOUR 2 FOR THE YEAR!! Doesn't matter that you could fit all 6 on one transaction without exceeding the new $40 limit, it now turns into items instead of transactions. You can return 2 ITEMS a year without a receipt.

Store credit may be given if item totals less than $10.

Without a receipt - Exchanges can only be made for the lowest sale price the item has been in the last 90 days. So if that cute outfit was on sale last week for $3.50, and you paid $15.00, sorry, you can only exchange for $3.50.

Merchandise off a Registry

Gift purchase logs may still be used as gift receipts as long as item(s) were taken off the registry.

AND BEWARE BECAUSE AS OF AUGUST 1, 2007:

The limit for no receipt items (still limit of 2 ITEMS per year) drops from $40 each to $20 each!!!)

GIFT PURCHASE LOGS MAY NO LONGER BE USED AS GIFT RECEIPTS!!! NO GIFT RECEIPT (Doesn't matter if you weren't even GIVEN a gift receipt for it) YOU MUST FOLLOW THE NEW NO RECEIPT PROTOCOL!!

So basically - if you get duplicate strollers from target, you're stuck with them both starting August 1. If you didn't register for them or they didn't take them off your registry, you're stuck with them both starting April 1.

If you get 5 pair of shoes, and only like 1 pair, and you paid cash and lost your receipt, you're stuck with at least 2 pair (unless each pair are more than $40/$20- 8/1/07-in which you're stuck with all 5)

The bottom line is: If you have ANYTHING YOU NEED TO RETURN WITHOUT RECEIPTS - DO IT BEFORE THIS SUNDAY!!!!! I want to give you ALL a chance to return without receipts while the policy is still decent before it turns ugly! And urge EVERYONE YOU KNOW to GIVE GIFT RECEIPTS WITH THEIR GIFTS!!! And keep EVERY RECEIPT! Even if you have to make a special pocket in your wallet for just target receipts, don't throw ANY OF THEM OUT!!! Put them RIGHT IN YOUR WALLET for safekeeping!

And please PLEASE whatever you do, don't give the service desk person a hard time. We don't make the rules, we're just given them and have to enforce them. When we got these new rules yesterday, all of us were groaning and complaining too. We're the ones, after all, who have to get verbally harrassed for it, so pleaseeeeeeee understand that it's not MY fault lol!! And before you ask, there's no way for even a manager to override the new rules, it's computer enforced so we have no way around it manually.

and only then, will you find the meaning of happiness."

Target sucks! A friend of mine who is about to have a baby registered at Target. One of her gifts she received was the crib bedding. Of course she washed everything and when she did it ALL fell apart! She took it back along with the gift receipts and tryed to return it. Nope....they said it had been opened and washed. #######....it was in rag after she washed it! So she went home and brought back EVERYTHING she had got for a gift that had a receipt, returned them and went to Wal-Mart where you can return anything and everything.

Seems reasonable to me. Someone has got to stop the shopaholics that buy, buy, buy only to then return, return, return. Makes the stuff I buy because I want or need it more expensive. I'm quite tired of funding their addiction...

I worked with a woman who thought returning things was a sport. She would buy one of everything from various stores and return what she didn't like. Too much work for me.

Without a receipt you already get penalized.

An example if you buy something for $50, then that item went on sale for $30 a couple of days later or sometimes in between. When you go to return the product, They will only give you the Lowest price the product was sold within X number of days.

We were at___ Dept Store returning an item, we left the receipt in the car, so when the cashier ran the tag it came 3 times less than what we paid for, so we just said we'll bring it back another time. Whenever there's an error most likely it's in the store advantage, but I hate those Buy, return, buy return also. you never know when you might get stuck with it.

Seriously, what's so hard about bringing the dang receipt back in? I returned something from Target last month and all I had to do was produce the card I paid with. Even though I had the receipts they didn't ask to see them. Weird to me.

Suppose you received a Christmas gift that you absolutely cannot use, yet you know where it was purchased? The no receipt policy would take care of that problem.

I agree with the above regarding returns from shopaholics. Everyone should be limited to 3-5 returns per year, unless the item is defective.

I don't get the whole buy and return either.

Only things I ever returned to a store back home was gifts received when it was a piece of clothing or shoes too big or too small (and I didn't actually return, I just exchanged for the proper size), or a gift that I already had, or something that wasn't working if it was eletronics or something of the sorts.

Many stores in Brazil won't even take stuff back at all. Some items can't even be exchanged for others, and if something is on sale, then completely forget it. You take it, you keep it.

Good idea, but if the person on the "giving end" does not supply one, you are SOL.

well, since i just recently had a baby (and a baby shower as well), ppl give you gifts without giving the gift receipt sometimes... it happens... in my situation, nearly everything came from babiesrus (taken off the registry)... but if i had received duplicate gifts from target, it would suck to be stuck with duplicate items... not all returns are from ppl who are trying to gyp the system

i understand trying to limit being taken advantage of... but you cant totally dismiss customer satisfaction either... and if i am going to give a gift (yes, i will give a gift receipt as well), i wont buy it from a place that might cause distress to the recipient if they already have one or want a different kind of whatever it is
