Deteriorating relationship between Russia and the USA

I may be over thinking this as I usually do but the current tension between the two countries is starting to really worry me to the point I am actually considering moving back to Australia.

Russian television has recently warned of an impending Nuclear war with the USA and has told it's people to prepare, while here in the States there has been nothing much about this in main stream news.

Should we be worried? Is this just typical Russian propaganda? Would like to hear your points of view.

I personally wouldn't worry about it to the point where I'd move out of the country right now. It's just talking heads. It looks like they're just trying to intimidate Americans in order to affect our upcoming election. They want Trump to win.

Nothing controls the masses better than fear propoganda. It is true that the US/Russian diplomatic relations are at one of it's lowest points since the cold war, but I honestly do not see any nuclear conflict ever coming out of it. What's the end game of a US/Russia nuclear war other than world destruction? You probably wouldn't be safe in Australia or anywhere else on the planet for that matter. If the actual nuclear bombs don't kill everyone, the eventual nuclear fallout will.

The US has used fear propaganda many times. Below is an instance from WW2.

Fear is used in propaganda with the aim to present a disastrous outcome that can only be prevented through a course of action promoted by the propagandist.

Analysis:

In 1943, Americans, civilians and soldiers alike, were tired of the war. The war had dragged on long enough with the allied forces making little progress in stopping Hitler’s massive army. The Nazis were slowly gaining the upperhand and it looked like they were going to win. Morale was at an all time low and the American government desperately tried to boost morale and convince the American people to keep fighting. One of the government’s methods to boost morale was to print the poster above which depicts a war torn Europe with the slogan “It can happen here unless we keep ‘em firing!” The aim for this poster was to exploit the fear that many Americans had that the ongoing conflict in Europe would soon reach American shores. The idea was to tell the American people that giving up would mean sure death for them so keep fighting. With detailed drawings of war-torn Europe, the demolished houses and the wrecked cars, the poster wanted the people to be fearful. Then it presented a remedy that fighting would prevent such disaster; fight with the glorious American army and their blazing tanks and planes. The poster presented a fear and then a solution to the fear. Unlike previous “Join the fight” or “Fight for your country” propaganda posters which asked for the people to fight since it was their duty towards their country, this poster used a more practical reason as an incentive to persuade people to fight. Fight now if you do not want to die.

Absolutely what Teddy said. I live in Russia (USC here) and it's insane what the government/media here say, it's near laughable sometimes how exaggerated it is.

The Russian government like to use the US as a scapegoat to blame all their problems on them in order to bolster Putin's image. Not going to write too much about this here because I'm in Russia and yeah....freedom of speech is limited. That said, America loves to ride the propaganda train, too. It's a very mutual relationship.

You are absolutely right about the nuclear winter/holocaust, though. That is the end game between these two countries if they go to war. Russia can obliterate US cities within a matter of minutes, and the US could do the same to Russia. It's a terrifying thought! You should watch Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb for some comic relief if overthinking the idea gets too worrisome.

Thank you so much to everyone and your response's. I can't tell you how much I have been fretting over this and after reading all the replies I will now stop checking breaking news every hour (LOL).

My main reason for wanting to return to Australia should the unthinkable ever happen is because my 15 year old son decided to stay there and I cannot bare the thought of not being with him should this ever occur.
