This is probably country specific, The Japanese police department wont give a certificate until they get a case number from the Us government. Which we provided to the Japanese Police Department and have the police certificate in our possession,. They also said they will not provide another police certificate so ONLY give it to the US embassy in Tokyo. The NVC never formally asked for the document but I simply cannot figure out why they still have my case in NVC - New Hampshire.

The NVC also confirmed this point on September 2nd because I asked them should I send it to speed up the processing of my case. My timeline has been posted before, I'll find it and paste it in this thread. At this point I'm over a year into the process.

Geno

You send a copy of the police certificate to the NVC. The original your wife takes to the embassy for the interview. This is quite a normal scenario that only one police certificate is issued. Hence NVC only require a photocopy. Edited by JFH

The Japan police certificate is VOID if we open the letter. It needs to be brought to the embassy sealed. This I know for a fact. This also applies to the australian police certificate. Its voided if we open it. I'm not going to open either letter and take a copy of it.

In the first review letter I received from the NVC, their were 3 documents listed that the NVC wanted but only one had an 'X' next to the item.

The Police Certificate

A copy of her birthcertificate

A W2 ( this item had the 'X' next to it.)

I sent the W2 to the NVC in August because from June -> August I heard nothing from them,

After I sent the W2, I asked the question about the other 2 documents listed above in email to the NVC. The NVC told me that I shouldn't send them any documents, that any outstanding documents could be provided by my wife at the time of the consulate interview.

My case again hasn't moved from September 2nd. Its past 30 days and past 60 days with no status change.

I sent another email this past Wednesday - I'm hoping to get a response either Monday or Tuesday. If not I'll call. I'm in HST so calling is the least convenient option for me.

Your case has really confused me.

Why are NVC telling you not to send any documents? That's is exactly what the NVC does - gather and check over your documents and then send them to the embassy for the officer to review in preparation for interview.

How far have you got with the NVC? A timeline would be extremely helpful. Have you paid the fees? There are two separate fees to pay - AOS fee of $120 and IV fee of $325. Did you submit the DS-261 and DS-260 online already?

Yes,. I paid the fees back in May. As soon as I could. I also submitted both the DS-261 and DS-260 both back in May. I don't know how to link to it but I've filled out the timeline for this forum.

If you want to get your case moving you have to call. They are open from 7 am till midnight EST so even in Hawaii you should be able to find a time to call. I called them from Europe, never emailed them.

So, you have received a checklist for the W2 and this was sent. Have they confirmed they received the W2?

The other two things (birth certificate and police certificate) they will let her bring to the interview - that's good news.

So you just need to call and find out if they received the W2, when they received it and when the case will be complete.

Your timeline is actually not that bad then. They are currently closing cases that were received in the first half of September. With the check list your clock is re-set. So you are at the same stage as people who submitted their documents in early September. My scan date was September 1 and my case was complete 10 days ago. They are still working on cases from the first two weeks of September. You're not alone. But it shouldn't be much longer now.

The NVC stage does require you to be pro-active to get things moving.

Yes, received that back in June. I haven't received a 2nd cover letter / items required sheet but I Presume thats because Im almost at the end of this process.

Anyone know what the wait time is for an interview at the American Embassy in Tokyo. I'm still hopefull I can bring my family here (well my wife, since my daughter is American and could come at anytime) in the New Year when I visit this Christmas.

I don't know if will be useful but this is Lima's contact email: LimaIV@state.gov I contacted them a few weeks ago and they replied within a day. I emailed here: LimaIVSchedule@state.gov for the early appointment request. The worst could be a NO, right? :)

After calling the NVC for the second time today i got a wonderful man on the phone who answered my questions for 20 minutes! I found out some great info! I now know why some receive cc before others even if they have a later scan date. All of the countries are split up into teams. Some teams receive more applications because those regions have more intenting imigrants. In general theyre all backed up but it explains a lot. Each team has a supervisor. Some supervisors are able to get to applications right away and some are loaded with work. They said it hardly ever takes 6 weeks for supervisor to review it but it still depends on how much work they have. I got a confirmation email on my expidite request so my fingers are crossed for that.
