So hubs best friend's kid almost got himself kicked out of school and he's in kindergarten.  Im not particularly surprised to be honest.  He did better this week though so they took him to a movie.  Seems like a rather large reward but since the kid has more toys than he can shake a stick at, time with mom and dad both is probably more valuable.

I'm kind of strict, but I'd take all the toys away and maybe just maybe give them back for good behavior.  To get to go to a movie, especially given that I hate sitting for movies, would be like great grades and behavior the entire year.

Mini-B. typically wakes up on his own and in a good mood, but he certainly delays when getting ready.  Gotta remind and ride him, and get him to turn off the TV.

They dont take things away, they spank, well the dad does.  His mom cannot keep to a threat of discipline ever.  Which is why the kid is bad at school a lot of the time.  He listens to me, hubs, his dad etc... he respects us more due to consequences.  She will pinch his arm in public because she doesnt feel comfortable spanking.  Ive tried to tell her that it doesnt work, nor does doing things back to kids.  But its their kid, not mine.

When i have looked after him, he gets some boring time outs for not listening.  Ive put him in time out in the middle of a store for running off where I cant see him.  I got him popcorn to share when he listened for the rest of the trip.  Listening is a lot better!

Maybe no tv until he's ready to go?

Sometimes being a parent means being more insistent and persistent than the kid.  Once you start the issue, dont ever lose.  Thats why we pick our battles wisely.   :)

My approach was to out maneuver them. Not easy, seeing as how they were cleverer than I am. The only thing that ever gave me the upper hand, was working out what they really really loved, and depriving them of it.  Youngest at 14..clean up your room... I am sure that room has carpet, but I haven't seen it in yonks. Did he do that? No sir he did not. So the next day I get a frantic call at work. My keyboard is gone!  !!! The world is coming to an end!!! OMG!! I knew that, it was in the boot of my car, at work. Want it back? Get busy. Never another issue.

The other kid developed a door slamming habit, and was none to happy when he came home from school one day to find he hadn't got a door, and wouldn't have one for a week. Mean Mum award :)

They are 43 and 39 today, so they survived. Mostly intact ;)

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

I'm debating filing for the Dane's citizenship under the 3 year rule, some of the new draft EOs are making me feel like that might be a good idea.

What about you Niki?  I know you were waiting until 5 years too.

I've thought about it, especially considering my passport expires this year.  But i still doubt I will since it's cheaper to renew my passport for 10 years.  I probably will get it before the next election though. Having to live through all the BS but unable to even have a real voice was more annoying for me than I thought it would be.

I think at the moment we qualify for the discounted rate which will make it around 400.  We've got to travel this summer to NYC to renew the Dane's passport either way and I think that is 200 or more.

On the note of passports mine is up for renewal this year too.  I made it my mission now that I'm 30, to be the same weight I was in the photo I took at 20 that is in that passport.  #motivation  I think it expires in the fall.

I dont qualify for any discounted rates unfortunately.  But a 10 year passport is $260 for me and thankfully I can just mail that off.

Good ideas on the rear-childing, si man & ma'ams.  We try reasoning (might be more effective if Mini-B. were a little older), and Mrs. T-B. yells at him, yell she man.
