Yeah, 2.5 years ago to the cold and frigid north of Minnesota, where even when your damn engine block heater is plugged in you still have trouble starting the car.

Me this morning:  :ranting::ranting:

Well, darn it! We could have had a coffee! Where did you live in CT? New Haven?

Since we are ranting - I was supposed to fly home after 4 years and when I got to the stupid airport they didn't let me board. Said that If I wanted to get home I could buy a new ticket for next day (most likely) and pay $5260....I hate air Canada.

GC received on the 28th of February, 2014 - no interview, no additional RFE's

Divorced as of September, 2014

NOA1 for ROC 14 October, 2014

Life goes on, my ex-husband is a moron.

Whaaaaaatttt?  That's crazy.  Why did they do that?

Somewhere on the shoreline east of there, but I do go there for a couple of weeks every summer.  This summer we have to go because my husband needs to renew his passport in NYC.

I kept my last name that I got thru marriage (because it was easier honestly) and my passport and visa for Canada was under my unmarried name. I knew it may be an issue so I called (!!) air Canada when I made the reservation and asked. They didn't know so I asked the consulate and they said (and I got an email from them to prove it) "no problem just have all your divorce papers and name change certified". I did that but they wouldn't let me on and said they can change the name on the ticket but won't let me on unless I buy a new one and for the next day since this one was fully booked. They claimed I would get stuck in Germany - the country I contacted to make sure it was not an issue.....still trying to fight to get my money back for the flight I couldn't take.....

Ewww, they do suck.   That is such a pile of #######.

I'm in the same boat a little bit.  For international flights, I have to book under my maiden name because both of my passports are in that name.  For domestic, I book under my married name.   I might need to fly with my maiden name again if Minnesota doesn't get their act in order with the new ID requirements.

They should have let you fly with that paperwork, though.

What new ID requirements?

Yeah, they should have or they should have told me when I called that "it happens all the time and you better book under maiden name". That is why I asked ....

Minnesota and the Federal REAL ID Act

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is in the planning process to upgrade Minnesota driver's licenses in order to comply with the federal REAL ID Act. Gov. Dayton signed a bill into law in March 2016, allowing this process to begin; however, lawmakers did not pass a bill to make Minnesota driver's licenses compliant in the last legislative session.

Minnesota is currently noncompliant with the federal REAL ID Act.

What that means right now:
Minnesotans who plan to visit federal facilities, nuclear power plants and military bases will need to show an alternative form of ID in addition to their state driver's license. Contact the agency in charge of the location you plan to visit to confirm what alternative forms of identification are accepted. One option might be a Minnesota Enhanced Driver's License (EDL).

What that means in the future, according to the federal Dept. of Homeland Security:
  • Now until Jan. 22, 2018
    • The TSA says it will continue to accept Minnesota driver's licenses as a form of identification to board domestic flights.
  • Jan. 23, 2018 through Oct. 1, 2020
    • Licenses from all compliant states (or noncompliant states with an extension) will be accepted. Minnesota is currently noncompliant and has not been granted an extension by the federal government.
    • People with licenses from noncompliant states without extensions, such as Minnesota, will need to show another form of ID, such as a passport or EDL, to board a flight.

They will probably just keep pushing it forever, so there is probably no reason to actually fear it.

Not yet, I suspect this is a fluke, but if it happens again I might look into it.  The Subaru has a boxer engine, so I don't know if that affects placement of heat and stuff.

Supposed to be similar until a couple of days next week, when temps plunge to merely 2x2x2x2x2x2+2+2 degr. F., sigh man.
