My own will/estate rant is directed at my 2 brothers who have so much money that they're demanding that their share of my Father's estate be passed to their children instead of them, as the will directs. This has necessarily prolonged the settlement of the estate by months.

 

Me: Why don't you leave the will/estate alone?

Brother(s): Taxes, man!

Me: What? You can gift the entire amount to your children, tax free, this year?

Brother(s): Can't do that 'cause I already gift my undeserving brood the tax free limit of $14k, every year.

Me: Trump will get rid of the estate tax anyway. What are you worried about?

Brother(s): I like that guy, but I don't trust him.

 

As my non-trust-fund baby niece has said... "These are really 1st world problems."

In the future I would only hold the property for 24 or 48 hours and if they don't show it can be rented to someone else.  I assume that you didn't sign a rental contract with them without receiving funds at the same time, right?

Yes we did, si ma'am.  They had a family crisis and promised the funds later.

 

However, all is now moot, moot man.  Rentress texted Mrs. T-B. to say that "after deep thought, we've decided to stay where we are, because it's best for our family" (in their house with mold pouring out of every A/C vent, which we saw with our own eyes, see self man).  This means that they couldn't come up with the money, fully expected by us & Mrs. T-B. man.

 

Ergothuswithforthly, we have lost another 2+2+2 weeks in a very bad time of year to try to rent anything out, sigh man.

Sad reality of the modern American family.

 

Some landlords give the tenant the ability to pay some of the deposit over the first several months of the contract.  Might that be an option for you?

1.  Which should not become our problem too, oj nie.

2.  We're soft-hearted enough to consider this on our own, oj tak, but wiser heads (including legal ones) have said, "If they don't have the funds now, what does that bode for the future?", oj nie.

 

At any rate, Mrs. T-B. just called with the idea to post the listing on Craigslist, idea she man.  Probably fewer fruitcakes than on Facebook, she thinks, plus January might be better than December for finding tenants, si man.

Maybe I was being overly cautious.  I about froze my hands off just going out to the car.  -10/-15 is kind of my downward limit and the school's too.
