My fiancee and her daughter will have their interview in early November. The CGI site has not opened up a slot yet, but I am checking it daily. I know I am not allowed to go to the interview with them, but it has been so long, and I need to see them. So we will make a little vacation out of it.

A flight from Houston to Hong Kong is at least $200 cheaper than to Guangzhou, and about 2 hours shorter duration.

Has anyone taken the ferry from HK to Guangzhou? Or would you recommend the bus or train?

Yeah but you catch the train in Shenzhen, right? How do you get from the airport to the train?

The bus from the airport takes you right to downtown. I think you have to go through HK customs to board the bus.

The ferry leaves from HK airport directly, so you go through customs in Guangzhou. Ferry takes about 1.5 hours. The problem with that is the ferry terminal is far from downtown.

You don't have to go to shenzen. Either way, you have to go through both customs in HK and GZ. And yes, ferry terminal is far from the city.

BY TRAIN:

The Airport Express train takes passengers from the Hong Kong International Airport to the Kowloon Station (now known as Hung Hom Railway Station) in Kowloon , Hong Kong in 20 minutes. The train departs at 12-minute intervals from 05:50 to 01:15 daily, with the last train leaving the Airport Station at 00:48. There are twelve trains daily between the two cities. Then, you can take a 15 minute taxi ride to the Hung Hom Station where the train departs for Guangzhou

By Ferry:

Take the Airport express train to Hong Kong Central Station. The ride is 24 minutes. Transfer to the ferry from here. This link http://www.chinatouristmaps.com/travel/guangdong/hong-kong-to-guangzhou.html provides ferry timetables and prices. Be aware that the last ferry leaves at 18:10.

Hope this will helps.

We fly from TX to HK recently. It was cheaper to flew to GZ if you go and come back on Tuesday-Thursday. You have to play with the dates.

Going from HK to CN requires clearing the Customs again. We took the bus from HK to a small town near GZ.

Thank you very much, everyone. Great information..

But, G & L Scottt, one correction. I have never been to Guangzhou, but I have been to Shenzhen and Zhuhai, and taken the ferry terminal at the airport. You don't go through HK customs. There are ferries from HKIA (Hong Kong Internatl Airport) to both Nansha and Lianhuashan ports in Guangzhou.

I think I will take the boat, at least going there.
