Question(s) on I-134, sponsor and co-sponsor

Hello all,

First, the short description of the situation (which is nothing complicated or unusual as far as I know):

I'm the beneficiary of a recently approved I-129F petition and my fiancée is now filling out the I-134. She has no income of her own and we will therefore be relying on a co-sponsor, i.e. her mother.

And so we have a question on question #11 of the I-134, which is:

"I (checkbox) intend (checkbox) do not intend to make specific contributions to the support of the person(s) named in item 3.

(If you check "intend," indicate the exact nature and duration of the contributions. For example, if you intend to furnish room and board, state for how long and, if money, state the amount in U.S. dollars and state whether it is to be given in a lump sum, weekly or monthly, and for how long."

My fiancée thinks that, since she cannot support me financially, she should check "do not intend". She does intend to but cannot at the moment. She will be getting a job later this year and should therefore be able to support me if I don't have a job of my own by then, but since the I-134 is about the here and now, we're wondering what she should tick.

Her mother (the co-sponsor) thinks she should tick "intend".

What should we do? Thanks.

BS lol

Shub......check the example I-134 form for guidance which you will find in the examples section. You do NOT have to check 'intend'

I must admit I hadn't looked at the example form before posting, assuming (possibly wrongly) that it wouldn't address my question; but now that I have checked the example form, I'm still as confused as before (sorry)! The example form has neither box ticked? Is that ok to do and what does it mean?

It means that the question does not apply to the K-1. The I-134 form is used for many Visa types. You can put N/A in the comment line underneath, as in the examples. I think it is taken for granted for the K-1 that the Foreign Fiance(e) will be supported in the U.S.

Thanks, that does make sense.

Now, I should have asked this earlier to save time and space, but oh well: so my fiancée will tick neither box considering the situation; should her mother (the co-sponsor) tick "intend", since I will be living off her resources until I can get a job? Or should she leave both boxes unticked like my fiancée?

Hmm, well I have to admit it sort of seems like that whole question could be misinterpreted by anybody. What I personally did, was write in the comment line, N/A Since I will be marrying xxxx xxxx I will always be supporting her.

You can make some note like that so that your intentions are not misinterpreted.

Good Luck!

I suppose her mother should tick the intend box, I don't know for sure, I'm no expert on this matter, but it sounds appropriate, and mention that she is the co-sponsor for you.
